GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The Unified program is designed to be an inclusive program that combines an approximately equal number of Special Olympics Athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and partners with Eastmont on teams for training and competition. Preferred coach with Special Education certificate or experience. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Understanding in coaching/playing strongly preferred.
  2. Must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the game.
  3. Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  4. Strong communication skills.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with players, staff, parents, and community members.
  6. Commitment to the program as an integral part of the district school program.

Administrative

  1. Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Eastmont Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.
  2. Knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements the same consistently and interprets them for staff.
  3. Understands the proper administrative chain of command and refers all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.  

 Duties:

  1. Assists in preparation for scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.  Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.
  2. Provides documentation to the athletic administrator needed to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility.
  3. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.

Student Responsibilities:

  1. Supervises practices, games and team trips.  Takes all necessary measures to safeguard each participant.

Equipment and Facilities:

  1. Accountable to the athletic director for all equipment.  Collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned.  Arranges for issuing, marking and storing of equipment and submits an annual inventory and current records.  Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
  2. Recommends to the athletic director budgetary items for next year in his/her area of the program.
  3. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.
  4. Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
  5. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.

Physical Requirements:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:

  • Frequent standing, stooping, lifting (25 lbs. to 75 lbs.), running, walking, jumping, sitting, reaching.
