Who are we looking for?
Our Environment group in Tasmania is a team of 25 passionate professionals across three offices, who are dedicated to delivering sustainable solutions for multidiscipline projects of all sizes across Defence, renewable energy, resources, water and other markets.
We are seeking an engaged, passionate Ecologist/Environmental Scientist, eager to deliver innovative client focused solutions and high-quality projects for our clients, through technical excellence and legislative guidance, with a focus on biodiversity and natural values. We want you to contribute to building a robust, skilled, and high-performing culture, capable of sustaining our long-term success.
We will consider applicants for either our Hobart or Launceston offices.
Our position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Delivering Natural Values Assessments and Baseline Ecological Surveys
- Delivering Targeted Threatened Species Surveys & Monitoring Programs in Tasmania and mainland Australia, working with other GHD teams throughout the country.
- Developing Flora, Fauna and Weed and Pathogen Management Plans.
- Leading and overseeing the planning and execution of ecology projects and coordination of multidisciplinary ecology teams (flora, fauna, aquatic and marine).
- Cultivating strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored biodiversity solutions.
- Preparing comprehensive proposals and bids for prospective projects
- Opportunities to work on projects interstate and undertake fieldwork nationally – we need you to be eager to travel to site frequently.
What you will bring to the team:
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in ecology, botany, zoology, biodiversity or environmental science, backed by 4+ years’ professional experience in ecology, environmental management or similar.
- Strong understanding of biodiversity legislative and regulatory requirements
- Willingness to work flexibly and independently, particularly when undertaking ecological surveys and traveling to remote locations.
- Skills or an interest in species identification, including using identification keys and field guides.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills: you’re a great teammate, who builds rapport with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in data management, interpretation, and reporting.
- Current Defence security clearance or be eligible to apply for clearance (read here for more information on eligibility).
- Current Driver’s License.
