Director, Data Engineering Job Summary:
The Director of Data Engineering is responsible for ensuring client data is loaded into PCI systems and extracted from PCI systems as per defined specifications, and in a timely and accurate manner. Also serves as Lead Developer for the Data team and has extensive experience with Microsoft SQL and MySQL.
Essential Duties:
- Accountable for loading of all client-originated data to the PCI schema
- Data analysis: Ability to design the transformation rules from source to target
- Data transformation: Solid foundation of techniques and best practices
- Thorough understanding of the PCI data schema and requirements
- Testing: Ability to troubleshoot complex problems related to multiple data sources
- Third-party data sources: Understanding how to merge research data
- Collaboration: Work with other teams to provide the best data quality and meet expectations
Requirements
Director, Data Engineering Requirements:
- 4+ years’ experience implementing ETL for Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions
- 4+ years’ experience in RDBMS design and development, and performance tuning
- 2+ years’ experience with SSIS, 3+ years with DTS, and T-SQL/ stored procedures required
- 3+ years’ experience with scheduling ETL jobs using SQL Agent and external scheduling tools
- 2+ years’ experience in managing projects and/or team lead
- 3+ years of experience with Big Data, data streaming, Data Lake Infrastructure, Data Warehousing, and Data Analytics tools
- Experience in cloud migration of Data Services (Azure experience preferred)
- Expert experience with MS SQL Server 2017 R2 database technologies
- Ability to read and write effective, modular, dynamic (parameterized) and robust code, establish and follow already established code standards, and ETL framework
- Experience using Business Intelligence Development Studio to build SSIS packages
- Excellent troubleshooting and optimization skills: interpreting ETL logs, performing data validation, dissecting SSIS code, experience with change data capture, using expressions, scoping of variables, commonly used transforms, event handlers, and logging providers, ability to understand and optimize the surrogate key generation and inconsistent data type handling
- Solid understanding of fuzzy grouping, fuzzy lookup transforms, import and export column transforms
- Experience in performance tuning of the SSIS packages, deploying and administering SSIS packages, proficient in utilizing scripting in SSIS, and replacing ActiveX script tasks in DTS with the script task in SSIS. Familiarity with .NET and C# framework is a plus.
- Experience in designing jobs that can be easily promoted from one (development) environment to another (staging to production) seamlessly
- Build and promote an agile development culture within the team while being passionate about high-quality code development and deployment to production.
- Familiarity with Web Services (Restful, WSDL, SOAP, RSS, XML)
- Accurate time estimation for completion of tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for team development and client relations
- Excellent analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
- Handle multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines without compromising quality
- Work with geographically distributed teams on technical challenges and process improvements
- BA/BS degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Information Systems preferred or equivalent experience
Supervisory: Yes. Average number of Direct Reports: 1-3
Minimum education preferred for the position:
Bachelor's degree preferred, especially with a major in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum certification/license preferred for the position:
Annual security awareness training and codes in compliance with NIST and OWASP recognized standards.
Minimum experience preferred for the position:
Ten plus years of work experience is required.
