We’re looking for a Java Backend Engineer to:

• design, develop, and continuously improve intelligent digital products and services that support our employees and HR stakeholders — with AI at the core
• apply a broad range of modern engineering practices, from analyzing user needs and developing new features to automated testing, deployment and observability
• ensure the quality, security, reliability, and compliance of our solutions by applying our digital principles and implementing both functional and non-functional requirements
• build observability into our solutions, monitor production health, help to resolve incidents, and remediate the root cause of risks and issues
• advocate for user and stakeholder needs, ensuring that AI solutions are explainable, ethical, and human-centric
• share your knowledge openly, contribute to hiring and onboarding, and help shape a collaborative, forward-thinking engineering culture

• New York: the salary range for this role is $140000 to $180000

You’ll be part of the AI Engineering team within the GOTO Group HRCS Technology organization. Our mission is to simplify and digitize the HR application landscape while delivering AI-powered solutions that enhance the employee experience. Based in New York, US, you’ll work in an agile, autonomous pod alongside product managers, designers, and fellow engineers, with a strong focus on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science or foreign equivalent
• strong experience in Java and Spring Boot (including Spring Batch and Spring Cloud)
• proficiency in REST API and GraphQL schema design
• experience with NoSQL data modelling (e.g. Azure Cosmos DB), data streaming (e.g. Confluent Kafka), and authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth 2.0, MSFT EntraID)
• familiarity with Azure Cloud Services (App Services, Azure Monitor, API Management)
• a collaborative communicator — you express ideas clearly in English and adapt technical content for diverse audiences, while working closely with product managers, designers, and engineers in agile settings
• a strong commitment to quality, maintainability, documentation, and continuous learning
• AI-related skills (e.g. Spring AI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, TensorFlow) are a strong plus
