JOB SUMMARY   

The Director of Career Services oversees the day-to-day operations of the Career Services department, ensuring job placement goals are consistently achieved. The Director provides leadership and direction by managing all aspects of career services activities to drive employment opportunities for graduates. At Apex Technical School, a trusted vocational institution serving New York City since 1961, the Director plays a vital role in connecting students trained in trades such as Electrical, Automotive, Welding, HVAC, Construction, and Plumbing with employers. By cultivating strong industry partnerships and guiding a team of career advisors, the Director ensures that Apex graduates transition successfully from the classroom to meaningful, long-term careers in their chosen fields.

Compensation-$70,000 to $73,0000

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  •  Oversee the daily activities of the department to ensure job placement assistance for all graduates. This includes preparing students prior to completing the program.
  • Meet or exceed established benchmarks for placement rates by ensuring policies and procedures are followed and that job development activities are maintained.
  • Track and analyze student records data to drive benchmarks by identifying needs and opportunities.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of the services and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Organize and leading school events and school visits related to career assistance.
  • Organize and attend Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain working relationships with prospective employers for the purpose of expanding employment opportunities for graduates.
  • May be responsible for job placement activities for groups students.
  • Ensure maintenance of comprehensive records for each student and graduate’s interaction with the department as it relates to their job search and status.
  • Advise students and alumni of career services opportunities and requirements for job placement.
  • Hire, train discipline, mentor and appraise career services advisors.
  • Review and assess data integrity in placement records to ensure compliance with school, state and accrediting standards.
  • Contribute to organization success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team results.
  • Complete professional development training as per APEX/Fedcap requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate efforts to ensure the team completes professional development activities.
  • Responsible for scheduling and payroll submissions.
  • Foster an environment that promotes quality customer service to staff, students and alumni.
  • Collaborate with school leadership teams to support operational needs.

     

QUALIFICATIONS    

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required-College Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role or Minimum of 2 years in related role
