About the Department
Under the immediate direction and supervision of the Police Captain or their designee, performs specialized and responsible computer and administrative work in support of the Police Department. Incumbent is primarily responsible for processing security badges and security access monitoring., Works with considerable independence within the scope of established policies and procedures. Position requires discretion and diplomatic skill in explaining policies and working effectively with Airport personnel, local, state and federal agencies, corporations, tenants, and visitors. Works to assist and support other staff members as directed and/or required.
Position Duties
- Administers, manages, and operates the security badge system and other security related computer systems.
- Reviews and oversees internal control of badge applications, including results of employment history, fingerprinting of applicants, criminal history records checks, and signatures of authorized sponsors.
- Maintain and operate the computer system, maintain related written materials, and controls information management of security badge holders, including performing an annual audit of all badge holders.
- Discreet, confidential and professional in all matters, both verbal and written, related to the Police Department, as well as other Airport departments and personnel.
- Serves as the administrative assistant for the Police Department, which may include typing correspondence, memos, manuals, etc.
- Works under the immediate supervision of the Police Captain, or his designee, to ensure all correspondence, filing, etc. are handled in a timely and professional manner.
- Serves as the first point of contact to the Airport Police Department. Assisting customers and/or referring visitors to the appropriate point of contacts in a timely manner.
- Maintains control of the airport key and lock access system for the airport terminal and AOA access points including performing an annual audit of the key and lock system.
- Ability to handle irate and difficult people both on the telephone and in person with the utmost degree of professionalism.
- All other related duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) year Associate Degree and at least two (2) years computer database experience in a business environment OR 30 credit hours toward an Associate's degree and at least four (4) years computer database experience in a business environment.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and the Windows operating system.
- Must possess a Florida Drivers License and pass a ten-year security clearance.
- Must pass the required TSA security background investigation. Must attend TSA Security Standards class and successfully pass a test with a minimum score of 70.
- Must pass and maintain all Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security awareness training for certification and meet current CJIS standards for access to restricted confidential criminal justice information.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of or ability to learn rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing security and safety at the Melbourne International Airport as states in the Airport security Manual.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn the geographical layout, organization, and operation of the security program and security system at the Melbourne International Airport.
- Ability to learn TSA, FAA and FDLE rules and regulations routinely utilized in the operation, maintenance and development of an Airport as it relates to airport security.
- Knowledge of current office procedures and practices in organizing work to meet goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of business grammar and mathematics commensurate with the requirements of the work.
- Ability to plan and execute all phases of various projects with minimal supervision.
- Skilled in written and oral communications.
- Ability to create and maintain filing systems.
- Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English and to understand written and oral directions.
- Ability to create and present classroom instruction using video and oral presentations.
- Skill, consideration, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealing with the general public, as well as fellow employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the community as necessitated by the work.
- Ability to operate modern office equipment such as copier, fax machine, computer, TV, computer projector, computers, commercial printer on multi platforms, and 800 MHz radio.
- Ability to learn, understand, and remember normal tasks.
- Ability to hear, speak, understand conversations in English in various tones of voice, as well as accents or fast spoken conversation.
- Ability to see and read letters, numbers, words, characters, or symbols which are both large and small, as well as identify colors.
- Ability to print, write cursive and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, and symbols which are legible and understood by others.
- Ability to lift items (weighing less than 15 pounds) above the head or down from over the head.
- Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.
- Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling or squatting position, or vice-versa, periodically.
- Ability to learn complex tasks.
- Ability to work in high paced and stressful environment with noise and constant interruptions.
- May be required to operate an automobile to run errands for the office or attend training.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time not to exceed three (3) hours at one time.
