Quality Engineer  

Onsite-Cheltenham.

Opportunity

As a  Quality Engineer you will provide Quality Assurance, Statistical Process Control, support Process Improvement, carry out Root Cause Analysis. You will also use Six Sigma Methodology following the DMAIC process, liaising with NPI, Production and SQA to root cause resolution, both internally and within the supply chain.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Fault analysis to determine root cause whether part/rig/process and be key liaison between AME, NPI, Production, Process Quality, SQA and PIT.
  • In conjunction with the relevant SQA, takes responsibility for all aspects of quality control, management, improvement and reporting. This to include timely communication of issues with the supplier, tooling improvements and return of non-conforming product.
  • Assists sample approval activities/system (PPAP) of new or transferred products from submission to production approval. 
  • Assists with knowledge of production requirements and process considerations for incoming inspection check criteria and complete checks as required.
  • Provides quality, engineering, and other expertise to support in cost downs in production and general process improvement activities.
  • Attends and supports activities of Production Kaizens, Fishbone analysis, Huddle meetings.
  • Ensures the timely, effective and efficient application of corrective action processes to permanently resolve quality deficiencies.
  • Develop sound product knowledge to act as a responsible Independent & Impartial Internal Quality Expert for all key production lines within both buildings.
  • It is expected this person will be very much a "hands-on" person, who will personally take responsibility for "doing", and will spend a large proportion of their time on the factory floor working closely with staff and process owners on continual improvement projects.
  • Liaise / Collaborate closely with all levels of Operations & stakeholders. Use relationships to maintain a network to support Production / Quality Strategies.
  • Support NPI Manufacturing Engineers to be integral member of Design & Process FMEA activities driving development of robust reliable products and production processes with regular feedback / communication.
  • Ensure Quality/Control Plans, PPTR’s, PFMEA’s and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained.
  • Capture and analyse manufacturing metrics to identify trends, gaps and opportunities for improvement, including the realisation of those improvements using 6 sigma techniques.
  • Support Rework, Scrap and RTS processes to understand quality defects seen and effects on production and supplier
  • Measurement System skills including CMM.
  • Operate without need for technical supervision.
  • Drive quality communication, to ensure knowledge is shared and recorded.
  • To undertake related tasks as requested by Supervisor.
  • To undertake assignments requiring travel both within the UK and abroad.

Skills/Requirements 

  • A relevant mechanical or electro-mechanical HNC or higher qualification, and minimum GCSE  level in Maths and English or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience, ideally completed 4 year engineering apprenticeship.
  • Experience of communicating information at all levels across various functions internally & externally: written & verbally, concisely and accurately.
  • A tenacious, enthusiastic, results driven individual with excellent time management skills.
  • A confident user of Microsoft office software.
  • Must be structured and organised, with an ability to work on their own, within a team.
  • Good problem-solving capabilities
  • Current UK driving license.
