We’re looking for a Technical Designer to join our award winning team in Middlesbrough (UK), home to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline and countryside. 

As a Technical Designer at Double Eleven, you’ll contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team, serving as a bridge between design and development to help create memorable player experiences. You’ll support the design team by providing technical solutions, developing prototypes, and working directly within the engine. You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing new game mechanics and features, as well as maintaining balance and refining the overall game feel across the project.

As a global gaming company, we've enabled millions to conquer Minecraft Dungeons, battle in Rust Console Edition and create new adventures in Fallout 76. 

Recently, we collaborated with Rockstar Games to bring Red Dead Redemption to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 as well as partnered with Obsidian Entertainment on Grounded: Fully Yoked Edition for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5.

What you’ll be doing 

  • Conceptualise and implement engaging game features and mechanics, collaborating closely with other designers to support their creations
  • Translate design specifications into fully functional and polished game features
  • Write and maintain scripts using appropriate game development languages and tools within the chosen engine
  • Support the optimisation of game code for performance and efficiency from a design perspective
  • Act as a bridge between the design and development teams, ensuring clear communication of design requirements and technical constraints
  • Contribute to the implementation, performance, and maintenance of design-driven scripting elements and internal tools used by the design team
  • Collaborate with other designers to find creative and technical solutions, leveraging your understanding of engine capabilities and limitations
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for design specifications, scripting systems, and tools to be shared across the wider team
  • Take responsibility for testing and prototyping new game mechanics and features, ensuring they are well-documented and aligned with project goals 

What we’re looking for 

  • Proven experience in game development, ideally within a professional studio environment
  • Hands-on experience with game engines, preferably CK or proprietary tools
  • Strong grasp of core game design and development principles, from concept to implementation
  • Solid scripting knowledge (with C++ proficiency highly desirable)
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in response to evolving project requirements
  • Good understanding of rapid prototyping and iterative development workflows
  • Strong awareness of game balancing, pacing, and overall game feel
