School Literacy Leadership Team (SLLT), Horace Mann Laboratory School, Salem Public Schools INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY [SY 2025-2026]

Position Overview:
The School Literacy Leadership Team (SLLT) is designed to support the school’s literacy initiatives and ensure high-quality instruction across all grade levels. Three teachers will be selected to serve as literacy leaders, with each teacher representing one grade band: K–1, 2–3, and 4–5. SLLT members will work collaboratively with colleagues, coaches, and administration to enhance literacy instruction and assessment practices.

 

Stipend:
$1,000 for the 25-26 School Year

 

Number of Positions: 3 (K–1, 2–3, 4–5)

 

On the Job Training: You will be given on the job training and support by a literacy coach (either HMLS literacy coach or a district based literacy coach).

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
    SLLT members will lead focused PLCs with the following priorities:

    • Facilitate Unpacking of Writing Units:

      • Analyze scoring criteria for student writing.

      • Develop teacher-made exemplars.

      • Collaboratively determine core lessons for structure and organization.

      • Identify the most pressing lessons on craft and voice.

      • Map the writing unit, including WETs (Writing Exit Tickets).

    • ECRI Practices (Grades K–3):

      • Review and refresh key ECRI practices.

      • Gather teacher input on areas of struggle and provide targeted support and practice.

    • Assessment Support:

      • Send friendly reminders of upcoming assessments

      • Support teachers in assigning assessments onto PEAR (K–2) and other assessment-related tasks as needed.

2.  Facilitate Data-Informed Instructional Interventions (DIIs)

    • Assist teachers in determining which pieces of evidence to collect.

    • Support sorting and analyzing data.

    • Collaboratively develop actionable plans based on collected data.

 

3.  Support Curriculum Access

    • Help teachers acquire new MyView Student Interactives.

    • Support teachers with navigating MyView’s online resources.

 

4.  Meet Monthly

    • Once a month, you will be asked to join an hour long SLLT meeting to collaborate with other teachers on the SLLT, admin, and coaches.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in literacy instruction and assessment practices.

  • Strong collaboration and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and provide supportive guidance to colleagues.

  • Experience with grade-level literacy curriculum, assessment tools, and intervention practices preferred.

Time Commitment:

  • Attendance and facilitation of scheduled PLCs.

  • Attendance and facilitation of scheduled DIIs.

  • Flexible support as needed for assessment administration and literacy initiatives.
