Preschool Instructional Assistant (2025-2026) - Shepherdsville Elementary na Bullitt County Schools

This position is for the 2025-2026 school year.

NOTICE OF POSSIBLE WAIVER: To expedite the hiring for this position, the hiring supervisor may apply for a waiver to prevent disruption of necessary instructional or support services. 

Shepherdsville Elementary School is seeking a highly motivated preschool instructional assistant on Mon/Tue/Wed/Th for 6.5 hours per day with some required extended days who demonstrates a passion for working with three and four year old at risk preschool children with varying levels of needs.

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

- ability to support the teacher in providing high quality instruction for the students

- willingness to work with students with bathroom needs

- willingness to support the total school program.

Previous successful experience with preschool students is preferred but not a requirement. Candidates in this position also may apply as preschool bus monitors for additional pay, though that is not a requirement for hire.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting the teacher with daily classroom instruction and activities.

• Working with small groups or individual students to reinforce skills and support learning.

• Supervising students in the classroom, during transitions, and at designated times such as lunch, recess, or rest periods.

• Supporting students with self-help skills, including toileting, dressing, and feeding, as needed.

• Helping prepare instructional materials and classroom resources.

• Encouraging positive behavior and modeling respectful interactions.

• Communicating effectively with the teacher, staff, and families to support student success.

This position is for 6.5 hours per day and 146 days per year

(122 student instructional days, 4 paid holidays and and 20 extended days) 

Contracted days will be adjusted depending upon start date.

• Must have 48 semester hours, an Associates Degree or have a high school diploma or equivalent and have passed the paraeducator exam and provide a copy to HR upon recommendation to hire.

New employees to the district may bring in up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience. (NOTE:  It will be the responsibility of the applicant hired to submit the BCPS verification of experience form to their prior employer to complete and return to HR.)
