Reporting to the Associate Director of Orientation Programs, this position is responsible for fostering a commitment to student success by actively developing, implementing, and maintain programs and services that enrich student learning, build and maintain a strong sense of community and support the social and personal development of incoming undergraduate students at the University of Oklahoma.

The position provides leadership, program development, administration, and programming for New Sooner Orientation and Camp Crimson. Specific duties include fostering relationships with student, staff, faculty, and community partners; supporting the planning and execution of New Sooner Orientation and Camp Crimson events, leading all student leader recruitment, training, hiring, efforts.

Job Duties:

  • Design, implement, and manage programs and initiatives within Camp Crimson and New Sooner Orientation
  • Student Recruitment and Training: This position is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training of a student executive team composed of Operations Staff (4-6 students), Senior Camp Guides and Camp Guides (18-24 students) and Crimson Crew (approximately 20 students).

     

    • The executive team is selected in the fall semester and then they work in the spring semester and summer in their role. Depending on their role they can work up to 20 hours a week.
  • Managing and supervision of Senior Camp Guides, Camp Guides and Small Group Leaders:
    • Senior Camp Guides/Camp Guides (18-24): these students work primarily during the spring semester and summer to support Camp Crimson planning, Small Group Leaders, and students during Camp Crimson.
    • Small Group Leaders (200-500): these student volunteers work over 3 months and support incoming students during Camp Crimson.
  • Marketing: Develop and execute a marketing plan to recruit and retain student leaders. This marketing plan should engage campus partners within Student Affairs and academic units.
  • Training: Build relationships and collaborate with on and off campus stakeholders to create training and development programming for Senior Camp Guides, Camp Guides and Small Group Leaders.
  • Assessment: Develop assessment for Camp Crimson student staff (Exec and SGLs). Modify and improve training based on assessment results. Identify and implement long- and short-term planning goals, and strategies. Assess goals and student satisfaction.
  • Engage in strategic planning with New Student Programs Orientation Staff to ensure programs are consistent with the mission of the University, Division of Student Affairs, and student needs.
  • Assist with program delivery of various programs within New Student Programs (NSP). NSP is comprised of multiple programs in addition to those overseen by this role, including: Camp Crimson: Winter Welcome, Freshman Week, Start Sooner, Crimson Commitment, Transfer Leadership Class, Class Council. Assist in setting up, staffing, and tearing down events designed and implemented by other NSP staff members when needed.
  • Attend various events or meetings and serve on committees that support the mission of New Student Programs.
  • Plan and coordinate activities, events, or special projects for New Student Programs.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
