About the Role:
PRIMARY FOCUS
Manage and drive the continual improvement of the core requirements of the position relating to:
- Maintenance of production equipment and support systems in manner that maximizes equipment availability for quality production at optimum cost.
- Develop and execute maintenance processes relating to people, methods, materials, machinery, and process to maximize profitability of facility
- Compliance with all regulatory items for safety, environmental, people, employment and insurance agencies.
- Working knowledge of, and adherence to, the specifics defined in the USW/Company collective bargaining agreement.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Direct (accountable for / authority over):
- Safety and compliance of area maintenance as defined in the corporate Health and Safety Manual and vision statements.
- Ensure that contractors are aware of and in compliance with Health and Safety policy.
- Ensure all contractors adhere to good housekeeping best practices.
- Lead the performance of Mechanical maintenance assigned to area in meeting equipment availability targets.
- Contribute to preventive maintenance plans for all areas of the mill.
- Communicate to Mechanical supervision repair options and potential risks. Follow up after maintenance work to identify opportunities to improve performance on similar work in the future.
- Take quick decisive steps to overcome obstacles that hamper the timely completion of maintenance work.
- Operates within established budgets for direct material & labor, and contract material & labor. Responsible for accurate maintenance cost tracking through established spreadsheet systems.
- Planning and scheduling daily maintenance activities efficiently using labor and material resources as well as daily communication with operations personnel.
- Make every effort to have parts, special tools, and services delivered without the need for expediting through purchasing.
- Effectively utilize CMMS to drive procurement of maintenance replacement parts and equipment as needed.
- Coordinate with all production area managers on work priorities and schedule adherence.
- Ensure that outages are planned, scheduled, and executed on schedule, within budget, and accomplish intended tasks. Takes a leading role in the planning of shutdowns. Be knowledgeable of job duration, manpower requirements and outside resources necessary to complete the work.
- Completing failure analysis of significant or repeat failures to eliminate re-occurrence.
- Maintaining mill areas in a manner to comply with asset insurance requirements (FM).
- Establish and communicate performance expectations to each contractor both verbally and written when necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- 4 year Technical degree preferred
- 2+ years Paper Mill or Industrial supervision experience preferred
- Strong computer skills in the following: Excel, Word, CMMS (i.e. Maximo or similar), MS Project
