Title: Vice President of Safety and Risk Management

Position Summary

The Vice President of Safety and Risk Management is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety and risk mitigation strategies across the organization. This executive will lead a team of safety professionals and collaborate closely with operations, finance, legal, HR, and all external stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and risk control. Executive will be the champion of GO Riteway’s number one company core value … SAFETY.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership
    1. Develop and execute a company-wide safety and risk management strategy aligned with operational goals.
    2. Act as passenger transportation subject matter expert and primary advisor to executive leadership on safety and risk-related matters.
    3. Represent GO Riteway at governmental and industry forums to influence policy and remain at the forefront of transportation safety innovation.
  1. Safety Program Oversight
    1. Oversee the design and implementation of safety training and communications programs for drivers, mechanics, and staff.
    2. Lead crisis management planning and response protocols.
    3. Conduct and supervise audits to evaluate safety compliance, identify gaps, and implement corrective measures.
    4. Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics; identify trends and implement corrective actions.
    5. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations (e.g., FMCSA, DOT, OSHA)
    6. Learn and maintain knowledge of all types of vehicle safety technology including the deployment of driver telematics to improve safety performance
  1. Risk Management Oversight
    1. Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, and reputational risks.
    2. Work with safety team and operations professionals to ensure timely and thorough reporting of all safety related incidents, crashes, or injuries across the company
    3. Manage insurance programs, claims handling, and relationships with brokers, insurers and legal counsel.
    4. Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses; ensure root cause analysis and follow-up.
    5. Personally respond and oversee response to major safety incidents.
  1. Team Leadership
    1. Build and manage a high-performing safety and risk management team including management of departmental budget.
    2. Indirectly guide and lead operations managers at all company locations to ensure strong alignment and commitment to company safety standards and objectives.
    3. Lead weekly Safety Committee Meeting to ensure thorough and timely safety incident review with proper follow-up and performance accountability.
    4. Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all company departments. 
  1. Stakeholder Engagement
    1. Collaborate with regulatory agencies, industry associations, regulatory bodies, and community partners related to passenger transportations safety and risk.
    2. Represent the company in legal proceedings, audits, and public forums related to passenger transportation safety and risk.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ten years of management experience with a minimum of five years of management experience in safety or risk management, preferably in a transportation environment.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and manage company-wide safety programs.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory compliance standards.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid CDL with “P”, “S”, and Air Brake endorsements.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional training in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Transportation, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in the student or motor coach transportation industry.
  • Familiarity with training design, instructional methods, and curriculum development.
  • Experience managing budgets and P&L responsibility in a safety function.
