About the Department

The Asset Information Analyst will assist in overseeing the asset management program by developing mathematical models and analytics of asset performance based on condition inspections performed by subject matter experts in rail and transit, engineering, and maintenance (area of deployment to be defined once hired). The Asset Information Analyst will sample asset data for accuracy, conduct trend analysis to identify possible defects, report findings, and follow up with the inspected, reviewed, and/or improved process to ensure the integrity of the MBTA Asset Management Program. The role will also collect and analyze data to statistically verify the reduction of safety incidents and more importantly analyze the root cause of asset defects within the jurisdiction of the asset management functions.
Position Duties
- Collect asset data, verify, and document as part of the Asset Management Program.
- Assist with the development and documentation of condition-based assessments for each individual asset type and assist in, as well as document the determining inspection criteria for verifying the condition of assets, monitor maintenance practices and procedures, and assist in establishing criteria for component removal, refurbishment, and preventive maintenance cycles based upon data-driven metrics.
- Measure the effectiveness of asset (both class and individual) maintenance programs.
- Prepare, author, and develop periodic detailed reports to Senior Managers, Directors, Managers, Superintendents, and Supervisors based upon data derived from the EAMS to identify instances requiring engineering improvement.
- Review inspections, test samples, reports, and other data to determine the State of Good Repair of assets and components.
- Create, analyze, and interpret EAM reports and data to assist with engineering and budget decisions.
- Respond to each inquiry, from a customer, vendor, or co-worker professionally and courteously.
- Enforce the Asset Management division policies and procedures by monitoring that policies and procedures are followed as it relates to assets, audit requirements, and other MBTA manuals and directives.
- Work any shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
- Respond or report to work as directed by supervisory personnel for emergencies, extreme weather conditions, or any other abnormal conditions that impair service or the safety of service, twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical field related to Vehicle Manufacture, Vehicle Design, Vehicle Engineering, Vehicle Technology, Science (i.e. Physics, Mathematics, Environmental, Materials), Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of data analysis or related experience.
- Experience with processes associated with assets or activities for the purpose of documenting and assessing conditions, maintenance planning, or proposing improvements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, planning, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications.
- The ability to read, interpret, and make recommendations based on technical documents and drawings including blueprints, maintenance manuals, specifications, schematics, fluid, and other sample tests.
- The ability to work safely in an active railroad and maintenance environment and the physical constraints associated with the working environments.
- The ability to quickly learn new technologies tools and processes.
- The ability to effectively work with employees at all levels within the Authority, vendors, and individuals outside the agency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills
- The ability to pay attention to details, use sound judgment, and prioritize work.
- The ability to work any shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
- Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
Other Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the Bachelor’s degree requirement
- An Associate’s degree from an accredited institution and an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitute for the Bachelor’s degree requirement
Preferred Experience and Required Skills
- A Bachelor’s degree or above in from an accredited institution in a technical field related to Vehicle manufacture, Engineering, Technology, Science (i.e. Physics, Mathematics, Environmental, Materials), or a related field.
- Five (5) years of data analysis experience working in vehicle maintenance, vehicle engineering, rail vehicle design, rail signaling, Maintenance of Way, or Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering (foreperson or above) in the transit or railroad industry.
- Working knowledge of American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) standards.
- Working knowledge of American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Standards.
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 certification.
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E certification.
- Experience working with the National Electrical Code.
- Basic knowledge of EAMS.
