About Wing:

Wing offers drone delivery as a safe, fast, and sustainable solution for last mile logistics. Consumer appetites for on-demand services are increasing, but current delivery methods are inefficient, costly, and contribute to road accidents and air pollution. Wing’s fleet of highly automated delivery drones can transport small packages directly from businesses to homes on-demand, in minutes. We design, build, and operate our aircraft, and offer drone delivery services on two continents. Our technology is designed to be easy to integrate into existing delivery and logistics networks, offering a scalable drone delivery solution for a broad range of businesses. Wing is a part of Google's parent company, Alphabet, and our mission is to create the preferred means of delivery for the planet. If you're ready to do the greatest work of your life, come join us.

About the Role

Wing is seeking a Reliability Manager to lead our Hardware Reliability team. This role is based  onsite in Palo Alto, CA. The ideal candidate has deep technical knowledge of engineering fundamentals, proven experience leading teams, and setting reliability strategy for complex, safety-critical hardware in harsh operating environments. You will be responsible for defining and enforcing the end-to-end reliability program, managing team priorities, driving the adoption of component standards, and ensuring effective test execution and critical failure analysis across our autonomous aircraft fleet. Your strong leadership, technical acumen, and superior communication skills will be key to scaling the team's impact and ensuring mission-critical robustness.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and scale the Hardware Reliability team, providing technical guidance, managing priorities, and developing staff.
  • Define and continuously refine reliability test plans based on evolving aircraft mission profiles and field data.
  • Strategically expand internal and external testing capacity to support fleet growth and new product lines.
  • Formalize and integrate lessons learned into closed-loop feedback for all NPI cycles.
  • Establish and enforce component-level reliability requirements, qualification criteria, and strategic targets aligned with demanding aircraft mission profiles.
  • Direct FMEA with Design and Systems Engineering to proactively identify and validate high-risk failure modes.
  • Manage compliance programs to ensure all flight hardware meets critical industry standards (e.g., JEDEC, AEC-Q).
  • Oversee and approve supplier qualification data and test reports, ensuring validation rigorously covers all real-world reliability stresses (thermal, vibration, shock).
  • Approve analysis of test results against life models (Weibull) to confirm reliability margin.
  • Own the final reliability sign-off for all flight hardware release, verifying compliance with program safety and reliability requirements.
  • Direct comprehensive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for lab and field failures, driving immediate corrective actions and revalidation.
  • Analyze large datasets (lab/field) to determine fleet failure rates and predict component life, guiding high-impact design improvements.

What You’ll Need

  • 8+ years of professional experience in hardware reliability, design, or failure analysis
  • 2+ years of experience defining and leading high-impact, cross-functional technical programs or managing engineering teams, demonstrating strong strategic execution.
  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expert-level familiarity with aerospace (e.g., DO-160), automotive (AEC), and/or relevant consumer electronics reliability test standards and methods.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop formal programs for FMEA, component derating, accelerated life modeling (Arrhenius, Coffin-Manson, etc.), and fatigue prediction.
  • Extensive experience with the full range of reliability test methodologies, including HALT, HASS, vibration testing, and thermal cycling, and a track record of deploying these programs at scale.
  • Demonstrated success managing a team and working with executive stakeholders to align reliability strategy with core business and safety objectives.
  • Strong organizational and program management skills to lead complex, multi-phase qualification efforts across multiple product generations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain complex technical findings and recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of a programming language (preferably Python) and experience in building tools for large-scale reliability data analysis and automation.
