The Avery Coonley School is seeking a long-term substitute teacher for Middle School Math (Algebra I) to begin in late February 2026 and continue through the end of the 2025–2026 school year.


Candidates should have experience teaching middle school students, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of high-achieving learners. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience fostering critical inquiry through project- and problem-based learning. This is a part-time position. 


Responsibilities 

  • Deliver daily instruction in Algebra I.
  • Collaborate with existing math faculty to ensure continuity of instruction.
  • Prepare materials and activities aligned with lesson objectives and student needs.
  • Foster a classroom environment that supports critical thinking, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and attendance.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
  • Participate in departmental and division meetings.
  • Uphold and model the school’s mission and values in all interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required; master’s preferred.
  • Experience with project-based learning and inquiry-driven instruction.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • A collaborative, growth-minded, and flexible educator.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage middle school learners effectively and compassionately.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice
