Reading Specialist (Long Term Substitute)

Location: Lawrence School / Falmouth High School
2025-2026 School Year
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts Licensure in Moderate Disabilities 5-12 and Reading (All Levels) required
- Bachelor’s degree in education required
- Master’s degree in special education, reading, and/or literacy preferred
- SEI endorsement required
- Knowledge of the Science of Reading and structured literacy
- Experience with identifying specific student needs relative to reading and personalizing instruction accordingly
- Experience with specially designed instruction, IEP development, progress monitoring, and assessment for students with disabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Such other alternative qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable or appropriate
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize evidence-based screening and assessment tools.
- In collaboration with teachers and administrators, use assessment data to identify students who are not making adequate progress and are in need of intervention and subsequent progress monitoring.
- Plan and implement small group and individualized interventions within an MTSS framework.
- Provide explicit, systematic, and sequential instruction in foundational reading skills to students who are identified for additional support and intervention.
- Monitor student progress
- Utilize appropriate programs, materials, and technology for reading instruction and intervention.
- Support classroom teachers and other service providers in the improvement of reading instruction, including consultation and professional development.
- Participate in Instructional Support Team and Special Education Team meetings, as appropriate, with attention to student strengths and challenges in literacy/reading.
- Utilize inclusion and/or SEI instructional strategies to support all learners assigned.
- Accept supervision and guidance from the Department Head and Principal.
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled meetings throughout the school year for literacy/language arts teachers from across the district.
- Such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal, Special Education Building Administrator, and/or Director of Student Services.
SALARY: In accordance with FEA Unit A contract
