Community Consolidated School District 62 in Des Plaines, Illinois is seeking a Paraeducator for the 2025-2026 school year at Chippewa Middle School. The position is in our Behavioral and Emotional Supported Teaching (BEST) Program.
The BEST Program provides intensive supports for District 62 students who struggle to maintain emotional regulation in the school setting. Qualifications:
Hold or be eligible for a Paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education: https://www.isbe.net/Documents/What-is-Paraprofessional.pdf
ONE of the following: Associate’s degree, 60 semesters of coursework, high school diploma with passing scores on ETS Parapro exam or ACT Workkeys
The ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English and Russian
District 62 Paraeducators:
Work with students and teachers to provide instructional support for meeting instructional program objectives.
Work with staff as a collaborative member of the instructional team.
Work with students in toileting and feeding.
Work with students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including children with autism
Work with students individually or in small groups to review, reinforce, enrich or expand upon skills or concepts presented by the classroom teacher.
Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining classroom discipline. Alert the classroom teacher(s) to any behavioral problems that limit the students' ability to complete their assignments.
Utilize confidential student information within school district guidelines for professional purposes only.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
District Information:
District 62 has approximately 4,500 students in grades preK-8 in 8 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 1 early learning center, and 1 year-round, K-8 school.
Compensation Information:
The position starting salary is $18.54 per hour including fully paid individual health benefits. (Those with 3 years of experience as a paraeducator or who hold a Bachelors degree will have a starting salary of $19.00 per hour.)
