SUMMARY:
The Commercial Program Manager is responsible for overseeing a group of related projects, often called a "program," to achieve larger strategic business objectives. Unlike a Commercial Project Manager who focuses on the successful delivery of a single project, the Commercial Program Manager looks at the bigger picture, ensuring that all individual projects within their program are aligned, integrated, and contribute to the overarching strategic goals and business outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Defines program vision and strategy by working with senior leadership to establish long-term goals and strategic objectives of the program.
- Ensures project alignment across all projects within the program to contribute to overall program goals and business strategy.
- Manages interdependencies by identifying and managing relationships and dependencies between different projects, ensuring that outputs from one project feed correctly into another.
- Establishes program governance, including decision-making processes, reporting structures, and communication channels.
- Monitors overall program progress by tracking the collective progress of all projects, ensuring they are on track to deliver the desired benefits.
- Manages program-level risks and issues that could impact the entire program, not just individual projects.
- Allocates resources across projects by working with Project Managers and functional leads to ensure that resources (people, budget, equipment) are appropriately distributed and optimized.
- Manages program budget and oversees the overall financial health of the program, ensuring efficient spending and value realization.
- Communicates regularly with key stakeholders, providing updates on program status, risks, and strategic direction.
- Resolves conflicts and mediates issues that arise between different projects or teams within the program.
- Focuses on benefits delivery to ensure that the program delivers the intended business benefits and value, not just project outputs.
- Measures program success by defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success and impact of the program.
- Performs other related essential duties as assigned or requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience managing multiple complex projects or programs simultaneously.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Suite and project management software, especially Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with program management methodologies and frameworks (e.g., PgMP, MSP) is a plus.
- PMP or Program Management certification preferred, but not required.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
- Knowledge of resource allocation, budget management, risk management, and benefits realization.
