Job Description
Job Title: Fabrication Mechanic
Job Summary:
BAE Systems is hiring a skilled Fabrication Mechanic to join our team in support of the explosives manufacturing facility at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant located in Kingsport, TN. As a Fabrication Mechanic you will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing mechanical equipment, components, and piping systems. This is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail, strong math and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently. The base work schedule for this position is M-Th, 10-hour shifts with occasional overtime to support facility operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Fabricate, assemble, and repair mechanical equipment and components, including machinery and piping systems
Design and build ductwork and sheet metal transitions.
Work with production/engineering to make measurements for field sketches and isometrics.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, piping isometrics, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly
Use various tools and equipment including, hand tools, metal brakes, lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment including TIG, MIG, and ARC, to fabricate and repair parts
Measure and test parts to ensure accuracy and quality
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems and develop solutions
Collaborate with other team members to complete projects and meet deadlines
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment and machinery
Utilize computer for completion of computer-based learning assignments, email communications, and access of electronic reference materials.
Effectively document specific details of work activities performed and labor hours associated with each job for entry into CMMS and timekeeping systems.
Adhere to all company policies, Standard Operating Procedure’s, departmental procedures, and Plant Protection Standards.
Operate forklift and portable work platforms.
Other duties as determined by immediate supervision or chain of command
Work Environment:
Work in a fabrication shop or mechanical room with varying temperatures and noise levels
May be required to work overtime or irregular schedules
Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
High School diploma or equivalent required
2-5 years of experience in a welding fabrication or pipefitting role
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems
Proficient in reading blueprints, diagrams, and specifications
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in a fast-paced environment
Technical Skills:
Proficient in using various tools and equipment, such as:
+ Welding equipment (e.g., MIG, TIG, ARC)
+ Pipefitting and tubing tools
+ Measuring and testing instruments (e.g., micrometers, pressure gauges)
Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:
Associate's degree in a related field (e.g., mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology) preferred
Technical Skills:
Proficient in using Lathes and milling machines (preferred)
Certifications and Training:
OSHA certification preferred
ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) certification a plus
Completion of a vocational or technical training program in a related field
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $52955 - $84728
