Summary
The Metal Finisher is responsible for preparing, finishing, and polishing metal parts to meet quality standards and customer specifications. This role involves operating various hand tools, power tools, and finishing equipment to remove imperfections, smooth surfaces, and ensure a consistent final appearance. The Metal Finisher plays a key role in delivering products that meet safety, durability, and aesthetic requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform grinding, sanding, deburring, buffing, and polishing of metal parts and surfaces.
- Inspect metal components for defects, rough spots, weld splatter, or other surface irregularities.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, sanders, and other finishing equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings to meet product specifications.
- Apply protective or decorative finishes such as brushing, chemical treatment, or coating when required.
- Ensure consistent quality by measuring and checking tolerances with precision tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following company safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
- Work collaboratively with welders, fabricators, and other production staff to meet production deadlines.
- Report on equipment issues, material defects, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.
- Assist in training new team members as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Ability to portray and contribute to a positive work culture every day.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Handle various materials including sheet metal, raw steel, bar stock, coil steel, plastics or other nonmetallic materials.
- Meet basic standard production rate and continually improve efficiency.
- Desire to learn new skills
- Ability to get along with others, be punctual, and follow instruction.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed including job rotation and/or overtime.
Preferred
- Experience with stainless steel, cast iron, and other specialty metals.
- Previous experience in metal finishing, fabrication, or related trade.
- Strong knowledge of metal finishing techniques, tools, and equipment.
- Knowledge of polishing techniques for cosmetic-grade finishes.
- Verifies conformance to specifications.
- Responsible for quality including first piece and in-process inspections.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.

- Specific vision required includes close, peripheral, and distance vision, as well as color vision and depth perception.
- Ability to stand, bend, lift, and work with hands for extended periods (67-100% of the day)
- Exposure to dust, noise, and metal particles (appropriate PPE provided).
Work Environment
This position is performed in a manufacturing/production setting with exposure to machinery, noise, dust, and metal debris. Safety equipment and training will be provided.
Monday - Friday, flexible start time (6am, 7am or 8am). Rare occasion of partial Saturday morning.
