The Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities which include buildings, grounds, and utility systems. Under direct supervision, the Construction Assistant will assist with any duties related to Carpentry or Electrical related projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with commercial construction tasks, including repair, renovation, alteration, forming, framing, and finishing of campus buildings and facilities.
  • Assist with general electrical work, including working on electrical systems, disassembling, cleaning, repairing, and reassembling electrical appliances and equipment.
  • Use tools and operate woodworking machines to complete various construction-related tasks.
  • Work primarily with carpenters or electricians, performing duties such as bending conduit, hanging sheetrock or plywood, constructing walls, moving materials, demolition, and clean-up.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: 
  • High School Diploma or GED (vocational or technical training preferred)
  • Experience: 
    • This is any entry level position.  No experience necessary.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 
    • Knowledge of safe working practices; ability to follow instructions
    • Ability to learn basic and specialized tools, should have some knowledge of proper hand tool use
    • Ability to perform heavy lifting and do physical labor; ability to lift 40 pounds with no assistance and be able to perform moderately strenuous work activities
    • Ability to lift, climb and work at varying heights
    • Should have some knowledge of proper ladder use
  • Other Conditions:
    • Valid Tennessee Drivers License

 UT Facilities Services is responsible for the care and keeping of more than 300 facilities and utilities systems in and around Knoxville. As the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s largest non-academic department, team members are responsible for facilities maintenance and repair, custodial needs, landscaping and lawncare, utility work, in-house and capital construction projects, facilities planning and design, environmental initiatives, pest control, campus event services, and facilities administration functions for both the flagship campus and the agricultural institute.  The Facilities Services staff provides around-the-clock coverage to ensure students, staff, faculty, and fans have a consistent and positive experience every time they step foot on Rocky Top.
