Exhibit Technician

Full Time, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Technical Supervisor

OVERVIEW:

Otherworld Philadelphia is a large-scale immersive art experience, combining interactive technology and imaginative storytelling to transport guests into a surreal, otherworldly universe. As part of Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group’s portfolio of immersive attractions, Otherworld brings together cutting-edge technology and artistic innovation to create a one-of-a-kind destination.

We are seeking a full-time Exhibit Technician to support the ongoing technical operations and maintenance of the exhibition. This role plays a key part in ensuring all exhibit technology, from audiovisual systems to interactive installations, remains fully functional and visually pristine for every guest experience.This role reports to the Technical Supervisor.

The Exhibit Technician works closely with the Technical Supervisor and the broader Exhibits department, contributing to new installations, executing repairs and preventative maintenance, and supporting the overall evolution of the space. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and passionate about immersive environments and emerging technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Repairs & Maintenance

  • Ensure the proper functioning of all exhibit technologies, including sensors, microcontrollers, lighting, audio, video, projectors, pixel LEDs, and electromechanical components.
  • Conduct routine inspections and reporting, support preventive maintenance efforts, manage inventory tracking, and assist with software backups.
  • Perform timely in-exhibit repairs during operational hours, maintaining clear communication with relevant teams regarding repair status and progress.
  • Assist the Technical Supervisor in managing exhibit and facility software, IT systems, and network infrastructure.
  • Assist in the upkeep and proper use of all workshop tools and technical equipment.
  • Ensure exhibit spaces consistently meet standards for safety, cleanliness, visual presentation, and operational functionality before and during operational hours.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director and Technical Supervisor to plan, scope, and monitor ongoing repairs and technical upgrades.
  • Carry out regular safety checks and equipment inspections to maintain compliance and operational readiness.

Operational Support

  • Assist with daily facility readiness in collaboration with the props and operations teams.
  • Ensure all exhibits and facility systems are functioning properly and meet both operational and aesthetic standards.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of technical tools, spare parts, and supplies.
  • Adhere to company protocols for exhibit opening, closing, and daily operations.
  • Submit all internal paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Step in and support wherever needed. Exhibits is one part of a larger team, and success at Otherworld depends on everyone working together and pitching in when needed.

Creative Collaboration

  • Contribute to the design, fabrication, and installation of new exhibits and technical enhancements.
  • Work alongside the Props and Technical teams to blend technology and artistry into a seamless guest experience.
  • Provide insight and feedback to continually evolve and enhance the interactivity and impact of exhibits.

Qualifications


 

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in a technical role within an immersive exhibit, theme park, live entertainment, museum, gallery, or related environment.
  • Solid knowledge of entertainment technologies including AV systems, lighting, control systems, sensors, and electromechanical components.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, TouchDesigner, DMX, projection mapping, and commercial AV installations is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and able to manage time and priorities effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Comfortable working at heights and lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Must pass a background check and have reliable transportation.
