Summary of Position:
The Grade 7 math teacher (leave coverage: February - June 2026) fosters a dynamic and inclusive learning environment focused on innovative teaching practices and student engagement. The individual is also expected to actively support students, create a positive classroom environment, and adjust teaching methods to support diverse learning styles as needed. This position primarily involves instructing courses in pre-algebra and algebra, providing students with the following mathematical skills and habits of mind: computational fluency and conceptual understanding, problem-solving, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. Units include: rational numbers, geometry, and probability. This role requires the development and ongoing review of curriculum and course materials.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Teaching

Implement a curriculum for four sections of Middle School math (grade-level to be determined).

Maintain a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation and discussion.

Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.

Stay informed about the latest developments in math education, trends, and innovations, and incorporate these into the program.

Learn about diversity, equity, and inclusion in education; incorporate related principles when designing curriculum, teaching, and engaging with students.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop inter-departmental and cross-disciplinary projects and initiatives.

Actively support students, providing mentorship and academic guidance.

Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, and exams.

Generate timely and comprehensive comments for each student, providing a well-rounded perspective on their academic performance.

Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic progress.
Other Middle School Responsibilities
All middle school employees are expected to attend morning assemblies and advisories, faculty and staff meetings, grade-level meetings, departmental meetings, and professional development. All Middle School employees are expected to be ready to welcome students into our space at 8:00 a.m. and, in this role, to remain on campus until 4:00 p.m.
A variety of community responsibilities are also an essential component of our program. All middle school employees are responsible for:

Weekly lunch supervision

Weekly study hall supervision

Facilitation of one semester-long activity
Supervision to be received: Supervised by the Middle School Principal
Supervision to be exercised: None.
Education/Certification/Licensure
Required: A bachelor�s degree in math or a related field
Preferred: A master�s degree in math, math education, or a related field
Experience
Required: A minimum of three years of proven experience in teaching at the middle school level
Preferred: Experience working in an independent middle school

Demonstrated computer expertise including GoogleSuite, Microsoft word, and Adobe.

Physical Abilities
Required:

Must be able to work at a computer for up to 8 hours each day in conjunction with OSHA requirements.

Must be able to teach in a classroom setting and use relevant instructional technology.

Must be able to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.

Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
