Job Summary
The Senior Staff Speech Language Pathologist, the Speech Language Pathologist 3, reports to the Rehab Service Manager and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The Senior Speech Language Pathologist 3 works primarily with neonate, pediatric, and adolescent patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, and adult/geriatric patients will also be served. The Senior Speech Language Pathologist III demonstrates a solid knowledge base within a wide range of diagnoses that may impact voice, swallowing and upper airway in the pediatric and adult setting. Under general supervision and within a specific therapy discipline, the Senior Speech Language Pathologist 3 independently performs complex patient evaluations and therapeutic interventions; serves as a mentor to staff and consultant to other medical professionals in patient evaluations, therapeutic intervention planning or therapeutic intervention requiring discipline specific skills. The Senior Speech Language Pathologist 3 makes recommendations in patient care procedures, protocols or programs related to the discipline specific areas, and instructs therapists and other medical professionals in the theory, application and/or performance of discipline specific skills. While performing job duties, the Senior Speech Language Pathologist 3 may also supervise support personnel, SLP students as well SLP Clinical Fellows. The Senior Speech Language Pathologist 3 actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and in-services and staff development activities.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $60.23 - $81.30 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Masters degree with clinical fellowship and minimum of 3 years of general patient care experience with a minimum of 2 years in a relevant multi-disciplinary specialty setting, within the past 5 years, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 40 hours of professional development activities, 50% of which are continuing education units (CEUs) or relevant academic coursework. The remainder can include mentoring, Grand Rounds, independent reading, etc.
- Prior experience with voice, swallowing and/or upper airway evaluation and management in pediatric and adolescent patients
- Prior experience as a clinical preceptor and prior experience teaching to a wide variety of audiences.
- Proven ability to mentor professional behaviors including interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
- Demonstrates ability to consistently meet clinical caseload requirements of a staff level therapist.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work a minimum of 32 hours and 4 days per week.
- Ability to recognize signs of distress.
- Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior professional clinical experience in an academic medical center environment in the areas of voice, swallowing, and upper airway.
- Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary health provider team.
- Ability to work full time, 5 days per week.
License/Certification
- Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech- Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California.
