The Department of Psychology, College of Social Sciences (CSS), University of Hawai’i at Manoa (UHM) invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor (F-3) position in Neuroscience. The hire will join the Cognitive, Neuroscience, and Social area, and desired applicants will add to the department’s strengths in neuroscience and cognitionThis is a 9-month, full-time, permanent, tenure-track faculty appointment to begin August 1, 2026, subject to position clearance and availability of funds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a research program; undertake research/scholarly projects in the field or branch of learning represented by and consistent with the goals of the UHM CSS.
  2. Seek extramural funding.
  3. Publish research in peer-reviewed journals.
  4. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in neuroscience, biopsychology, and seminars in specialty area, and courses serving departmental needs (e.g., Statistical Techniques in Psychology), as needed.
  5. Maintain a professional level of performance and productivity in assigned areas of teaching, research, and service.
  6. Supervise and mentor undergraduate, MA and PhD students.
  7. Contribute to development activities at the discipline, department, and campus levels.
  8. Work independently and with colleagues to select, develop, and revise curricular materials, instructional techniques, and assessment strategies at the course, credential and/or discipline levels.
  9. Provide service to department, college, university, and community.
  10. Participate in professional and self-development activities.
  11. Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair. 


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, or closely related area from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalent by date of hire;
  2. Record of research accomplishment (publications, grants) commensurate with time in the field;
  3. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in neuroscience, biopsychology, and seminars in specialty area;
  4. Demonstrated ability to mentor students in the applicant’s area of research; 
  5. Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.


Desirable Qualifications

  1. Post-doctoral or comparable research experience.
  2. Research interests that contribute to the program area in cognition, neuroscience, and social psychology.
  3. Demonstrated ability to receive extramural funding.
  4. Experience teaching student populations with varying backgrounds.
