Position Summary:
As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role as an assistant to our physicians. You will be cross trained to perform a range of administrative and clinical duties. These duties include preparing the patient to see the physician, preparing examination rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures.
Job Duties & Essential Functions:
- Greet and communicate with patients and families in a professional, respectful manner
- Conduct clinical intake, including chief complaint, history of present illness, and review of systems
- Perform pre-exam assessments such as visual acuity, tonometry, pupillary evaluation, and dilation
- Execute advanced diagnostic testing, including OCT, fundus photography, IOL Master, and visual fields
- Assist physicians during minor procedures and in-office laser treatments
- Provide patient education on medication use, post-operative care, and contact lens handling
- Process prescription refill requests and coordinate medication prior authorizations
- Track and communicate lab results accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment; coordinate repairs and calibrations as needed
- Monitor and manage clinical supply inventory, ensuring compliance with expiration and storage protocols
- Ensure exam rooms and diagnostic equipment are cleaned, stocked, and ready for use daily
- Adhere strictly to HIPAA guidelines and clinic safety protocols
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician Assistant
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification required or enrolled within one year and completion within two years of hire
- Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills
- Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
Work Schedule:
- Rotating Schedule – including days, evenings and weekends
