The Prince George's County Government Office of the State's Attorney is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Budget Assistant 1 grade G13 position, in the Budget Unit.

About the Position 

This position is a temporary 1,000 Hour position. The incumbent will serve as the Budget Assistant of the Office of the State’s Attorney. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of routine budget related administrative tasks in support of professional level budget analysts. Work involves assisting with routine and detailed clerical, non-technical and research-oriented tasks, often related to the collection of data processing source documents and data reports specific to the preparation and monitoring of the budget. The incumbent treats all work and personnel related matters as strictly confidential.

The State's Attorney's Office (SAO) is responsible for serving nearly one million residents of Prince George's County. The SAO's legal department is divided into multiple divisions, each of which has jurisdiction over different facets of criminal law.

Position Duties


  • Assists with compiling checks and edits figures on an automated system in support of the budget analyst as directed. 
  • Assists with tracking budget allocations and spending reports making necessary computations to obtain preliminary and final request analysis, including the computation of sub-totals and totals by budget classification. 
  • Assists with operating automated equipment programmed with budget process information, statistical and financial data. 
  • Assists in the preparation of responses to routine requests from outside agencies and citizens for information related to the County budget process. 
  • Assists in reviewing budget submissions for conformance with requirements. 
  • Assists in preparing and compiling data relative to grant funds. 
  • Assists with conducting studies of all budget expenditures. 
  • Assists with collecting data through personal interviews and independent resources to properly analyze and evaluate the budget request. 
  • Assists in the fiscal preparation, monitoring, and payment of contractual agreements. 
  • Assists in reviewing operational activities and advises management regarding the need to update by functional area. 
  • Assists with the review of time sheets and expense charts. 
  • Receives invoices from vendors relative to purchases and processes necessary payment vehicle (payment request, procurement card, purchase order, etc.) to ensure payment in a timely manner.
  • Assists with analyzing monthly department budgeting reports to maintain expenditure controls.
  • Prepares Travel Requests for the State’s Attorney’s Office personnel, in accordance with established guidelines; to include registration of employee to attend conference, reserving/paying for hotel room, purchasing airline ticket, and requesting meal stipend/ground transportation in advance.
  • Ensures all employees complete the “Travel, Training, and Seminar Request” Form required by the Office of Management and Budget when requesting travel for a conference.

Minimum Qualifications


  • High School diploma or G.E.D., plus 30 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university towards an Associate's degree with course work in accounting and financial management
                                                                                                                                         or 
  • One (1) year of experience providing paraprofessional support to an accounting or budget office performing budgetary or financial recordkeeping within an automated accounting system.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Budget and Procurement experience strongly preferred

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
