The Occupational Health Physician is directly responsible for patient care, patient education, consultation, and interventions for patients. This role will also provide leadership to the rest of the practice when it comes to managing the care, documentation, outcomes and growth of the workers compensation patient population across TCO. An additional purpose of this position is to support growing relationships with employers and their employees throughout the i-Health market by providing pre-employment services, annual physicals and other value-based services sought by employers in the market. 

This is a full-time position working out of our Eden Prairie location.

Twin Cities Orthopedics is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare.

Essential Functions: 

  • Provide direct patient care to individuals specializing in illness/injury prevention, rehabilitation or intervention needed based on individual patient needs 
  • Providing care in the field of occupational health and industrial medicine for the prevention and management of illness and injury 
  • Shared decision-making with the patient around promotion of wellness. Knowledge sharing of exercise physiology, biomechanics, psychology, nutrition, rehabilitation, and epidemiology 
  • Support the development, retention and growth of direct to employer relationships, sales and contracts.   
  • Offer advice on when it is appropriate for workers to return to their job duties and other activities to prevent a relapse or recurrence of injuries and optimize the recovery process 
  • Partner with TCO Surgeons and Physicians to improve patient outcomes 
  • Perform evaluation and observance of workers’ mental state and well-being, including concussion management 
  • Support employer Safety Managers, HR representatives, and/or onsite health professionals in expediting and optimizing the return-to-work process for injured workers  
  • Record medical history of patients and employees and provide timely documentation back to employers where appropriate 
  • Manage the documentation and return to work process when an employee is injured on the job  
  • Always inform employers about their employees’ medical condition in a timely manner, specifically as outlined in the MN state requirements for documentation, workability, and employer communication  
  • Interpret results of laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging processes 
  • Perform evaluation and management of chronic pain conditions 
  • Perform treatment (usually non-surgical) of disorders in the musculoskeletal system 
  • Coordinate care activities with other medical experts, like physical therapists and surgeons 
  • Develop/formulate and test procedures for handling emergency situations for employers  
  • Provide expertise and resources to the i-Health Human Resources department to optimize the internal management of workers’ compensation recordable events   
  • Support the development and implementation of tools to reduce the likelihood of musculoskeletal injuries for partner employer groups as well as the overall health optimization of the employees’ health, wellness and productivity  
  • Provide counseling and education to workers and their families regarding illness and prevention of injuries. 
  • Occasionally participate in community functions relating to TCO outreach events throughout the year. 
  • Any other duties as assigned 

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Board certification in Occupational Health/Medicine 
  • Residency and fellowship in primary care, family or internal medicine 
  • Must have all the required licenses and certification needed to work in a particular region or locality

Essential Requirements: 

Ability to: 

  • Possession of good communication skills (clarity in communication) is a must for every physician 
  • Must possess good analytical and problem-solving abilities 
  • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team approach to case management and team coverage 
  • Must exhibit a high level of patience and understanding when handling patients 
  • Must show flexibility in handling patients due to the fact that injury concerns may differ from patient to patient 
  • Previous experience in occupational health and industrial medicine is highly desirable  
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, practices and business ethics guidelines. 
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, (e.g. HIPAA, Stark, OSHA, employment laws, etc.) 
  • Work in the clinic, office or surgery center during business hours   
  • Travel independently throughout the clinic, office or surgery center (which may include movement from floor to floor); frequent bending, lifting, standing, stooping or sitting for long periods of time may be required 
  • Work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately and meet deadlines 
  • Communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner 
  • Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations 
  • Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions 
  • Understand and execute a variety of instructions 
  • Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system 
  • Work independently with minimal supervision 
  • Complete job required training 
  • Demonstrate prompt and reliable attendance 
  • Travel to other work locations, if required
