SUMMARY

The Compliance Investigator will conduct compliance investigations for the California Tribal TANF Partnership as directed by the Compliance Director. The investigations will be completed on participants of CTTP, and contractors/consultants that are referred to the Compliance Department for fraud cases and special cases that need direct attention. The Compliance Investigator will also assist the Compliance Director with fraud cases and special projects directed and referred by Administration. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in the investigation of fraud cases assigned by the Compliance Director
  • Review questionable applications for TANF benefits submitted to the Central Office. Coordinate with the Compliance Director for approval or denial of application.
  • Review all case management files at headquarters and satellite offices for compliance to ensure that all supporting documentation is properly filed.
  • Keep informed and up to date on Federal and State Regulation record-keeping requirements.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate records and reports, including regular compliance report for Compliance Director.
  • Perform Compliance training for all new site personnel and schedule in-service training as needed.
  • Interact with governmental agencies to ensure records and agency documents are available to clients for record keeping purposes.
  • Maintain close communication with the Compliance Director and Program Services Director, and collaborate with other CTTP staff regularly.
  • Help Site Managers to make referrals to appropriate agencies and programs.
  • Detect and evaluate potential fraudulent situations.
  • Enter data accurately into computerized system.
  • Identify when computer output is inaccurate and make corrections.
  • Interpret and explain regulations and policy directives.
  • Explain complex rules and programs to Satellite Office personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Compliance or Program Services Directors.


Requirements

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalency and three years or more of experience in a compliance or law enforcement position or any combination of education, training and experience which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position
  • Current California driver’s license
  • Listens well and attains clarification when necessary
  • Speaks and writes clearly and informatively
  • Approaches others in a tactful manner, and reacts well under pressure
  • Ability to treat others with respect and consideration, regardless of their status or position
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and applies feedback to improve performance, while monitoring own work to ensure quality
  • Ensures work responsibility is covered when absent, and arrives at meetings and appointments on time

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Requires sitting 6-8 hours per day.
  • Requires frequent driving to site offices, some of which are in remote locations.
  • Requires contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone, via e-mail, or through correspondence).
  • Includes conflict situations.
  • Requires making decisions that affect other people, the financial resources, and/or the image and reputation of the organization.
  • Requires work with others in a group or team.
  • Requires meeting strict deadlines.
  • Must be capable of upholding a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to maintain control of emotions when dealing with distressed subjects during investigations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Business Applications, database software, and Internet software, spreadsheet software, project management software (TAS) Tribal Assistance Software and word processing software.

OTHER

  • Experience working with Tribal communities helpful.
  • Work hours may vary.
  • CTTP conducts a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test, and random or for-cause drug testing thereafter.
  • CTTP complies with the Indian Preference Act.
