The YMCA of Greater Richmond is seeking a safety-focused, full-time Professional Lifeguard to ensure the safety of members and program participants at our pool! This position will be located at the Chester YMCA and Petersburg YMCA.
DUTIES:
The Lifeguard will relate to members in a professional and courteous manner; oversee the safety, cleanliness, and order of lap pools, family pools, and surrounding areas; and assist with the maintenance and upkeep of pool equipment. The Lifeguard will be trained in and knowledgeable about emergency procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Richmond, follow all procedures, and record and report all accidents and incidents to Director. The Lifeguard serves as a role model for part-time aquatics staff and may assist with training other employees. This position requires 35 hours of direct service guarding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates must be able to swim 300 yards, tread-water for 2-minutes, and have a safety-minded attitude!
- Professional Lifeguards are the face and heartbeat of our aquatic centers. Candidates must be service focused; have a demonstrated sense of self-accountability and be intrinsically driven to uphold aquatic safety standards; must be vigilant in maintaining the safety of all members; must be team players with a strong focus on the greater collective good of their YMCA.
- Candidates must possess and continuously practice lifesaving skills and knowledge and be able to pr during emergency situations; set the tone for a safe and positive aquatic experience.
- Previous lifeguarding and aquatic experience is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and demonstrate the ability to successfully implement YMCA of Greater Richmond safety standards and facility Emergency Action Plan.
- Applicants must be flexible and able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- *Applicants must also have current CPR-Pro, AED, First Aid, and YMCA/Red Cross/Ellis lifeguard certifications. Must hold O2 certification or obtain it within 30 days of hire.
*The Y will train interested candidates who meet basic swim requirements if not already certified!
