Job Description
Position: Director of Library Services
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs
Qualifications:
- Master of Library/Information Science accredited by the American Library Association with at least three years’ experience in library work.
- Knowledge of budgeting, collection development, staff supervision, and experience working with students.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervision of the library building and the library staff.
- Mentoring, guiding, and instructing the library staff.
- Making recommendations to the administration on all matters pertaining to the status, promotion, change in position, or dismissal of members of the library staff.
- Formulating and administering policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Preparing and administering the library budget, when approved.
- Acquiring library resources to support academic programs; establishing and maintaining efficient acquisition records.
- Handling general library correspondence.
- Preparing reports, surveys, studies, and analyses of library services, resources, staffing, and library access.
- Developing library collections including books, e-books, e-journals and databases.
- Evaluating library collections to fill gaps.
- Collaborating with the faculty in the selection of library materials.
- Assisting in securing gifts for the library.
- Raising awareness of library resources and services among users.
- Planning the best use of library facilities and keeping facilities in good working order.
- Maintaining close relationships with administrators, faculty, students, committees, and consortia.
- Participating in the formulation of the educational policies of the university.
- Cooperating with other libraries in the area.
- Serving or assigning library staff to serve on committees to include Academic Council, Graduate Council, Curriculum Committee, Library Committee, Gen Ed Committee, and Institutional Effectiveness & Strategic Planning.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
The Director of Library Services is a 12-month administrative staff member with voting privileges on certain shared-governance committees.
The library director is expected to work, on a regular basis, the hours necessary to perform the job responsibilities, to manage absences from work in a responsible manner, and to comply with Campbellsville University’s rules and regulations as outlined in the Administrative Policies and Procedures Manual.
The employee is expected to conduct him or herself, both on campus and off, in a manner becoming an employee of a Christian institution.
