Job Summary

A Hand Hygiene Observer at TJUH Inc. is responsible for monitoring and documenting staff compliance with established hand hygiene protocols across clinical and non-clinical areas. The role involves discreetly observing practices, accurately recording data, and identifying trends to support infection prevention initiatives. Observers contribute to quality improvement by providing reliable data that helps drive education, accountability, and safer patient care outcomes.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Hand Hygiene Observers monitor staff adherence to established hand hygiene protocols through discreet and accurate observations.
  • They record and submit observation data in a timely and precise manner to support infection prevention reporting requirements.
  • Observers maintain confidentiality and professionalism while conducting observations to ensure unbiased and reliable data collection.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate objectivity to ensure unbiased data collection.

Ability to engage staff in real-time feedback conversations that promote accountability and support improvement.

Understanding of basic infection prevention and control practices, particularly hand hygiene protocols.

Ability to work independently and follow established observation guidelines consistently.

Awareness of hospital policies and regulatory standards related to patient and staff safety.

Strong attention to detail for accurate observation and data recording.

Proficiency in using electronic devices or data entry systems to document observations.
