SALARY:  The salary range for this position is $64,317.50 to $108,810.90 for Schedule A, and $64,317.50 to $101,520.57 for Schedule B.  For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to October 31, 2015, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after October 31, 2015, are considered Schedule B.

REMOTE WORKThe Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Position Duties

The New Jersey Judiciary has an exciting advancement opportunity open to Hudson Vicinage employees. The selected candidate will perform the following duties under the direction of the Family Division manager and other supervisory personnel: 

  • Process incoming and outgoing petitions filed pursuant to the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act, including continuous, extensive interaction and communication with initiating and receiving jurisdictions providing and obtaining feedback on case progress to ensure compliance in accordance with Federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Consult with Judges, team leaders and/or law clerks with regard to special problems, case management and adherence to standard operating procedures; follow up on issues regarding pending cases; identify clients' or customers' case management needs. 
  • Explain UIFSA program policies and procedures to attorneys and litigants. 
  • Provide assistance and procedural guidance to victims seeking the issuance of a temporary restraining order pursuant to the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act (TROs) and temporary protective orders (SASPA) pursuant to the Sexual Assault Survivors Protection Act, including conducting in-office interviews to prepare the complaint for presentation to a Domestic Violence Hearing Officer or Judge at an ex parte hearing to determine whether the victim will be granted a temporary restraining order pursuant to the PDVA.
  • Schedule final hearings, motions, summary proceedings.
  • Assist team leader with review and analysis of FACTS case management reports to ensure compliance with applicable case-flow processing guidelines and Best Practices.
  • Performs other related duties as required. 
Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Probation Officer
Probation Officer Bilingual

Eligibility for Advancement: Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Senior Probation Officer as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement to the Senior Probation Officer title are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any area, which includes or is supplemented by 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences and two years of professional experience in casework involving gathering and analyzing socioeconomic information; determining client treatment needs; providing access to social services, therapeutic interventions, rehabilitative assistance, or professional counseling; and/or preparing reports of findings and recommendations.
 
Substitution: A master's degree from an accredited college or university in the behavioral or social sciences may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Other Qualifications

Driver's License:  Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work:  US citizenship is not required.  Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Special Note:  Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Residency Law:  In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
