Summary

The Material Planning Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the availability of construction and maintenance materials across SRP. This position requires strong analytical skills, initiative, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal departments and external suppliers. The analyst gathers and interprets market intelligence, applies material planning principles, and utilizes forecasting and inventory optimization techniques to support operational efficiency. Proficiency in SAP, FGS, WAM, and Microsoft Office tools is essential. The role also involves maintaining accurate data, monitoring supplier performance, and contributing to strategic sourcing efforts—all while upholding SRP’s standards for ethical supplier relationships and compliance with corporate policies.

What You'll Do

  • Gather and synthesize market intelligence for various commodities and materials to inform planning decisions
  • Facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders to align material needs and priorities
  • Coordinate with internal customers to ensure materials are available at the right time and location
  • Utilize basic WAM functionality to support material tracking and planning
  • Proficiently operate material planning platforms such as SAP and FGS
  • Apply core material planning concepts including MRP, safety stock, and service levels
  • Use forecasting methods and statistical analysis to minimize overall material costs to SRP
  • Optimize inventory levels across SRP to maintain availability while reducing excess
  • Leverage advanced skills in MS Excel and MS Access for data analysis and reporting
  • Set up new parts in planning systems promptly and manage obsolete material appropriately
  • Maintain accurate lead times to support effective planning and procurement
  • Provide material planning insights to Purchasing Contract Analysts during sourcing initiatives
  • Monitor supplier performance and escalate issues to the appropriate Purchasing contacts
  • Foster strong, ethical relationships with suppliers to support SRP’s values and goals
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures.

  • Proficiency in using procurement and business systems (e.g., SAP, FGS, WAM, and Microsoft Business Tools) to support purchasing operations.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail for managing reports, reconciling data, and supporting audit processes.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Position may require occasional travel. 

Experience

Experience as an Inventory Material Planner, Software Engineer, Database Manager, Materials Manager, Materials Buyer, Procurement /Contract Analyst, Commodity Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Engineer, or other similar disciplines.

 

• For a Level 1 (Associate), a minimum of no previous years of experience to two years related experience is required (if no degree, four-six years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling four-six years). 

• For a Level 2 (Journey), a minimum of two years of experience to four years related experience is required (if no degree, six-eight years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling six-eight years).

• For a Level 3 (Senior), a minimum of five years of related experience is required (if no degree, nine years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling nine years).

 

Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years experience at Level 1 and demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of 3 years experience at Level 2, is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Education

A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
