Firmware Engineer III (Power Electronics)

Acumentrics is seeking a Firmware Engineer III, to play a crucial role in ensuring the stability and quality of our power electronics systems. Working closely with our hardware and manufacturing teams, the Firmware Engineer III will be the primary owner of firmware for our released products, focusing on maintenance, bug resolution, and production support for our rugged uninterruptible power supplies (RUPS). You will also drive the development of our lab capabilities by developing automated test procedures.
This position is ideal for a motivated engineer with a background in computer engineering who is passionate about embedded systems and is eager to build deep product expertise while growing their skills in test automation. You will be expected to operate independently, lead moderately complex projects, contribute to team efficiency, and provide guidance to peers.
Firmware Engineer III Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or a related field
- 5-7 years of experience in embedded systems development
- Proficiency in the C programming language for microcontrollers
- Experience developing automated test systems using National Instruments LabVIEW
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers
- A fundamental understanding of microcontroller architecture and common peripherals (e.g., GPIO, UART, SPI, I2C, ADC)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented mindset
- A basic understanding of power electronics concepts (e.g., DC/DC converters, inverters)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a scripting language, particularly Python for test automation
- Familiarity with version control systems, especially Git
- Exposure to communication protocols like CAN bus or RS485
- Familiarity with Linux

Firmware Engineer III Job Responsibilities
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve firmware defects reported from the manufacturing floor or the field
- Write, debug, and integrate targeted firmware fixes in C for existing product lines; manage the bug-tracking process
- Design and build automated test solutions using National Instruments LabVIEW
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures to validate firmware fixes and product updates
- Act as the primary firmware resource for the manufacturing team; troubleshoot firmware-related issues on the production line
- Maintain production test fixtures and programming tools
- Assist hardware engineers with functional verification of updates and revisions to existing printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs)
- Utilize lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supplies to perform debugging and validation tasks
- Clearly document code changes and contribute to technical specifications, test reports, and release notes; practice use of version control systems like Git
