In this role, you will play an essential role in the growth of the Commercial Market Capital Equipment Sales team. The Sales Application Engineer (SAE) demonstrates strong ability to understand needs and technical requirements from customers, vendors and Gustavo Preston Company (GPC) Sales team. The product types you will support will be HVAC, Water Booster Systems, Wastewater Pump sets, and Water Heaters.
The SAE is responsible for supporting the proposal and the technical review portion of order process for the Sales Groups. Working with the Sales team, Admin personnel and other SAEs, the incumbent reviews customer requirements and GPC outside sales needs and develops accurate responses. These responses include reviewing requirements to assist Sales team in choosing the correct equipment during proposal stage through order placement and post sales technical documentation review. The SAE shall collect all necessary information and costs to generate complete system or product equipment cost estimates. The SAE will assist or take lead to develop product specifications. The SAE will be responsible for assembling or developing engineering documentation for the Sales team.
We are looking for a candidate local to the Chelmsford, MA office, work from home is available after training is complete.
Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical sales support to GPC Sales team and customers as required and needed.
- Perform technical and commercial reviews of customer specifications. Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the technical proposal and adherence to customer’s requirements. Timely presentation of a technical proposal that meets customer specifications to either the Sales team or customer. Work with suppliers and internal team to determine the best solution to meet customer requirements.
- Maintains liaison with customer and contractor representatives in order to review, monitor, and evaluate results for conformity to tasks, specifications and schedules.
- Prepare required paperwork for order handover and execution as required. This includes but is not limited to preparing equipment/product submittals, cost sheets and review of returned submittals.
- Provide technical expertise to Sales and Commercial Operations in selecting, implementing, and developing competitive solutions.
- Coordinate with sales force to make customer calls, presentations and participate in bid meetings and walk-through meetings with customer as needed.
- Provide timely estimate of equipment and system performance, hardware, and price for budgetary estimates. Prepares estimates in conjunction with costing group, including inquires of subcontractors and works with internal engineering support groups for cost data.
- Assess competitive system performance and hardware evaluation throughout the entire bid process.
- Participate in meetings or direct communication with customers to assist in resolution of problems or complaints.
- Prepares and distributes literature, technical data and promotional material if required.
- Maintains a teamwork philosophy to facilitate problem solving and provide good customer service.
- Responsible for assuring that the preparation, release, and maintenance of documentation is in accordance with Company and contractual requirements
- Advises and consults with upper management, customers and industry representatives concerning business opportunities and potential problems which may impact on the Company's business.
- Assist in project management of orders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in an application sales engineering role or other related engineering and technical positions applied to the Commercial Building marketplace.
Specific Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to independently and without supervision, manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while coordinating efforts and information from co-workers, vendors and customers.
- Working knowledge of pumps, pumping systems, controls, valves and instrumentation.
- Proper application knowledge of electric motors, VFD’s, control components and instrumentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, VBA programming desirable
- Capability to multi-task with excellent organization skills.
- Problem solving and decision making with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read, comprehend and comment to technical specifications and equipment operation manuals.
- Detail orientated.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong teamwork building skills.
- Self-starter, high motivation level.
