Job Overview: The Vice President of Finance will play a critical role in driving financial strategy, operational efficiency, and business growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this position will oversee core finance and accounting functions, partner closely with Land Acquisition and Development teams, and support executive leadership with strategic insights and decision-making. The VP of Finance will ensure fiscal discipline, strengthen controls, and deliver financial visibility across the organization while helping to scale processes in a dynamic homebuilding environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes across divisions and business units.
- Develop forward-looking models and provide actionable insights to guide executive decision-making.
- Evaluate business opportunities, land deals, and investment projects with detailed financial analysis and return metrics.
- Monitor company KPIs, trends, and cost drivers; recommend strategies to optimize performance.
Financial Reporting & Operations
- Oversee timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for the CFO and executive team.
- Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Deliver variance analyses, profitability assessments, and clear explanations of business performance.
- Partner with accounting to support closing processes, reconciliations, and audits.
Land & Development Finance
- Partner with Land Acquisition and Development teams to underwrite new projects and evaluate financial feasibility.
- Oversee pro forma modeling, return analyses, and financial packages for investment committee or executive review.
- Ensure accurate financial setup for land purchases, loans, and draw management.
- Align financial processes with acquisition schedules, development timelines, and sales pacing.
Treasury, Banking & Compliance
- Support CFO in managing lender relationships, credit facilities, and covenant compliance.
- Oversee preparation of draw packages, loan documentation, and related reporting.
- Assist in capital planning, liquidity management, and working capital optimization.
- Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and audit requirements in partnership with CFO and external advisors.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members to build a culture of accountability and high performance.
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, land, construction, and sales to ensure alignment of financial goals with business execution.
- Serve as a key advisor to the CFO and executive leadership on financial strategies and risk management.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including leadership roles; homebuilding or real estate development industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong background in financial planning, reporting, and modeling.
- Demonstrated experience in land and project finance, banking relationships, and compliance management.
Skills:
- Advanced financial modeling and analysis capabilities.
- Deep understanding of construction cost accounting, real estate finance, and capital structures.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with executive-level stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Strategic thinker with hands-on problem-solving and process improvement skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Occasional travel to job sites and regional offices may be required.
