The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Assistant Manager with an EMT or Paramedic background to support our emergency medical services and safety operations. This role combines medical expertise with strong leadership and safety management, ensuring the well-being of both employees and guests in a high-performance, fast-paced environment.

As an Assistant Manager - EMT/Paramedic, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Supporting and up-holding the mission, goals and objectives of the San Antonio Zoological Society
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of EMS operations within the park.
  • Provide direct emergency medical response and oversee on-scene coordination during incidents.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and compliance checks across all park areas.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, inspection, and documentation of fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems in accordance with safety standards.
  • Oversee inventory management of medical supplies, including ordering, stocking, and ensuring readiness of all EMS equipment.
  • Develop and manage employee schedules, ensuring adequate coverage during all operational hours.
  • Support staff through training, mentoring, and performance feedback to maintain high service standards.
  • Interacting with other EMS, Fire, and Police services as required to promote patient care and transportation
  • Performing minor vehicle maintenance (fuel, fluids, air, wash vehicles etc.) on all vehicles as required
  • Participate in incident reporting, accident investigations, and development of corrective action plans.
  • Collaborate with park leadership and departments to enhance safety culture and emergency preparedness.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and compliance documentation for EMS and safety-related activities.
  • Respond to and assist with guest and employee safety concerns, ensuring timely resolution and follow-up.
  • Support the Manager in strategic planning, operational improvements, and departmental projects.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.


Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:

  • Current certification as an EMT or Paramedic (State and/or National Registry preferred).
  • Proven experience working in a high-performance emergency medical services (EMS) environment.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety practices, with emphasis on prevention and compliance.
  • Experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and workplace inspections in a fast-paced environment (theme park, zoo, or entertainment venue experience a plus).
  • Ability to inspect, maintain, and document fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems in accordance with OSHA, NFPA, and local regulatory standards.
  • Skilled in incident reporting, accident investigations, and corrective action planning.
  • Experience in employee scheduling, shift coverage, and staffing coordination.
  • Knowledge and ability to order, track, and maintain medical supplies and emergency equipment inventories.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to supervise and support staff in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or equivalent software for documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by park operations.
  • Commitment to guest and employee safety, customer service, and continuous improvement.
