Overview  

The DSA/MID Ambassador teams play a vital role in living our organization’s mission: to create a healthy, vibrant downtown for all. All Ambassadors are stewards of the public realm and help to make it an inviting and welcoming place for all. All Ambassador teams work with the following priority framework focusing on the “three Cs”: Clean, Clear and Cared for. This means that all employees strive to maintain a visually appealing and safe environment for all by resolving clutter and disarray and caring for all people in the public realm in a friendly and positive manner. The downtown public realm should be high quality and consistent, demonstrated through attentive oversight of the details in the public realm space and genuine care and concern for the people in the space. 

 

Position Overview 

Public Realm Operations Assistant Supervisor is responsible for providing field supervisor and support to ambassadors to ensure both public and private owned amenities in the downtown public realm are clean, organized and in excellent working order; that right-a-ways, parks and plazas are set up each day to be welcoming to all; to support activations, programming and events that support the organizations mission and to collaborate will all MID teams on a daily basis.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Interact with the public regularly and provide a high level of customer service.
  • Perform supply inventory and file reports to the purchasing agent for the facilities Department. 
  • Assist in the coordination of department activities such as, scheduling work assignments, setting priorities,
  • Help to analyze problems and develop effective courses of action.  
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, selecting, orienting, and training employees, developing personal growth opportunities. 
  • Ensure that all employees have the necessary equipment and supplies to perform their duties. 
  • Address performance or behavior concerns through coaching, training and/or corrective action to ensure desire performance is achieved.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and supervise individuals who may or may not have had a past criminal background or addiction challenge.
  • Monitors employee activities to ensure performance standards and productivity levels are maintained. 
  • Evaluate employee work habits to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct uniform and personal appearance inspections of all Cleaning Ambassadors
  • Assist the supervisor in conducting formal performance evaluations. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ability to consistently exemplify MID/DSA core values: Collaboration, Perseverance, Innovation, Excellence, and Integrity. 
  • Ability to demonstrate customer service experience and effective leadership skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with emphasis on emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work in all public spaces in the downtown area.
  • Required to maintain a clean and neat appearance. 
  • Ability to provide a valid ID.
  • Knowledge of Downtown Seattle and its community a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of Window, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is a plus. 

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

Work Environment - Work outdoors for the entirety of each shift in all weather conditions, handling potentially hazardous waste. 

Physical Demands - Standing, walking, bending, sitting 8-10 hours a day. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.  

 

Schedule:  

*Tentative schedule until November 9th : Team 2- Monday-Friday 12:30 – 9 pm 

 

Fixed schedule after November 9th : Team 4- Friday – Monday 10:30 a.m. – 9 pm 

 

Employment Details 

DSA is committed to internal and market equity. The hourly range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00. Salary is determined based on internal and market equity, internal and market data/salary ranges, and the applicant’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We will hire at the beginning of the salary range to allow future salary growth based on an employee's performance, professional development, and increases in responsibilities and duties.
