About the Department

As the Recreation Facility Maintenance Supervisor, you will oversee the maintenance and repair of three Parks and Recreation facilities — the Recreation Center, Chapman Hill, and Durango Gymnastics. You will recruit, train, and support a team of maintenance and custodial staff, guide facility budgets, and develop maintenance and repair schedules that keep these community spaces safe, welcoming, and well cared for. This is a leadership role that combines people management, facility operations, and hands-on technical expertise.

Position Duties
What You’ll Do in This Role:
- Lead, direct, and support the maintenance team by assigning work, recruiting and training staff, monitoring performance, and contributing to development.
- Manage facility maintenance operations, including preparing and recommending operating and capital budgets, overseeing department purchasing, and managing supply inventory.
- Plan, schedule, and perform preventative maintenance on complex mechanical systems, including HVAC, boilers, pumps, and aquatics equipment to meet safety and code requirements.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair failures across all facility systems and mechanical equipment.
- Perform specialized trades work including plumbing (up to 10-inch PVC and 3-inch copper lines), electrical (up to 480 volts), carpentry, locksmithing, painting, welding, and tile work.
- Oversee and perform maintenance and repair of commercial fitness equipment.
- Coordinate and direct construction projects from initial design through completion.
- Operate and oversee equipment for snow removal and grounds maintenance, including landscaping, irrigation, and pest control.
- Respond to emergency maintenance needs outside of regular business hours when required.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED equivalent (required). An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Facility Management, Construction Management, Building or Mechanical Systems, Public Administration, or a related field (preferred). Three years of progressively responsible experience in facility maintenance and supervision of employees.
Provide strong leadership by mentoring your team with a focus on safety, training, and professional growth. Bring expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining complex systems, including commercial aquatics, HVAC, and trades work such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and welding. Demonstrate sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills. Communicate clearly, collaborate well with others, and deliver professional service to the community and City employees. Balance operational administration, including budgeting, procurement, and project documentation, with hands-on repair work.
