About the Department
Summary
Provides support to the Director of Capital Projects for campus projects, improvements, and repairs.
Position Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Assists the Director of Capital Projects with managing the day-to-day success of projects.
- Supports and serves as back up to the Director of Capital Projects.
- Assists with project administration by performing field visits to help oversee progress and coordinates as necessary with the construction team, outside authorities having jurisdiction, and JCC staff.
- Assists with project planning, prioritization, scope development, bidding, and acquires permits for campus projects as needed.
- Helps ensure compliance with State Construction, financial procedures, local and state jurisdictions.
- Assists in the planning and development of design and equipment standards to create guidelines for Johnston Community College Facilities.
- Assists the Director of Capital Projects with reporting project information.
- Assists with other duties as assigned

Education Minimum: Associate's degree, equivalent education or comparable experience
Education Preferred: Associate's degree with course work emphasis in Construction management
Experience Minimum: One (1) to three (3) years
Experience Preferred: Three (3) to five (5) years in governmental project management
Other Qualifications
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, submittal data, equipment manuals, project schedules, and applications for payment.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of vendors or employees of organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and Colleague.

Valid NC driver's license
