Job Title: Crew Planning Manager

Location: Orlando, Florida

Department: Crew Resources

Reports To: Director of Crew Resources

FLSA Status: Exempt  


Summary: The Crew Planning Manager at National Airlines has a strategic role, overseeing the team responsible for managing Crewmember rosters beyond the immediate 72-hour window, creating a plan that allows for safe and efficient operation in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and company policies. This position focuses on medium-to-long-term planning and resource management, developing forecast models, and synchronizing flight and training schedules with Crew availability to support the Company’s daily operations and future growth strategy.


Essential Functions:

  • Strategic Planning: Responsible for efficient and effective medium to long-term management of Crew schedules beyond the 72-hour window. Oversees Crew bid awards, vacation/PTO management, and staffing forecasts to ensure trip assignments are aligned with operational goals and future growth.
  • Training Coordination: Coordinates with the Training team to incorporate training requirements into the overall plan, including scheduling Crewmember availability for recurrent training and ensuring line training requirements are properly accounted for in trip assignments.
  • Leadership: Responsible for providing exemplary leadership to the Crew Planning team by executing a comprehensive training program, serving as a mentor to foster professional development within the team, conducting regular performance evaluations and counseling, and managing the team’s schedule and timecards.
  • Communication: Acts as the primary liaison between the Crew Planning team and other critical departments, particularly the Crew Scheduling, Commercial, Mission Planning, and Training teams. This involves collaborating on flight and training schedules, integrating Crew availability and requirements into operational planning, ensuring seamless execution of strategies.
  • Crewmember Satisfaction: Maintaining open lines of communication with Crewmembers, actively soliciting, and considering their feedback, and proposing process changes to better support and address their needs. This function is integral to creating a positive work environment and enhancing overall Crewmember morale and operational efficiency.

Supervisor Responsibility: Yes

Work Hours: Typical office hours, with the potential to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in airline operations, with a focus on Crew scheduling/planning.
  • Comprehensive understanding of 14 CFR Part 117 and Part 121.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently and effectively.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country in which the position is located.
  • Must pass a background check which could include fingerprinting, a pre-employment drug test, and criminal history records check (CHRC).

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, copy machine/printer. 
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work 
  • Light to moderate lifting up to 10 pounds. 

Work Environment:

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business offices with computers, phones, printers, and overhead lights). 
  • Ability to work in a confined office or open cubicle environment
