CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY INTERN ROLE SUMMARY
As the Creative Technology Intern, you will use your skills to contribute code to real client projects, generate prototypes and explore emerging technologies. You will learn about the unique challenges of activating physical spaces with technology and get the opportunity to work in our fully-outfitted tech workshop. You'll be paired with an experienced developer who will serve as your primary mentor and guide your learning throughout the internship.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to small web applications and interactive prototypes that integrate with physical hardware
- Assist with front-end web development using modern technologies, tools, frameworks and workflows
- Work proficiently with Adobe Creative Suite and apply user experience and design principles
- Learn how web applications interface with physical hardware (sensors, cameras, lighting systems)
- Collaborate with experienced developers on actual client projects
- Self-direct and perform at a high level in a fast paced, ever-changing work environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience building interactive web applications using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (vanilla JS or modern frameworks)
- Development Experience: Familiarity with Git version control and collaborative coding practices
- Creative Mindset: An innovative mentality and entrepreneurial spirit
- Team Player: Desire to bring a fun, creative and energetic level of professionalism to the team
- Adaptability: Exude a "go where needed" attitude and outlook on role
- Growth Mindset: Comfortable with failing while remaining positive and eager to learn
- Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Organization: Ability to evaluate urgency of situations, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail
- Preferred Majors: Interactive Digital Media, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar degree
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
- How to develop web applications that control and interact with physical hardware
- Working with sensors, cameras, interactive displays, and LED lighting systems
- Collaborative development practices in a creative technology environment
- The unique challenges and opportunities of activating physical spaces with technology
- Professional software development workflow and quality assurance practices
- How technology integrates with design and fabrication to create immersive experiences
PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS:

- Links to GitHub/GitLab repositories showing web development projects
- A portfolio website demonstrating your coding projects and technical skills
- Examples of creative, interactive, or hardware-integrated projects (even if not web-based)
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The Creative Technology Internship is an hourly (non-exempt), full-time opportunity that runs from June 1st, 2026 - July 31st, 2026. Applications will close on December 31, 2025. This is an onsite Monday - Friday internship in our Kansas City location. You must be at least 18 years of age, and currently enrolled as a college junior or senior or actively enrolled in a related postgraduate program.
Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and hold a valid driver's license. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Due to our onsite Fabrication process, the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. You'll have access to our fully-equipped electronics workshop including LED lights, sensors, cameras, and various computer equipment.
