About the role

As the Senior Arborist, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Asset & Maintenance Group.

Based within the Reserve Management Team, you’ll provide expert support to V/Line’s risk-based tree management programs spanning the statewide V/Line network, including Electric Line Clearance and Hazardous Tree Management.

 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Conduct assurance activities and inspections to ensure V/Line and external supplier compliance with V/Line’s Electric Line Clearance Management Plan and relevant regulations.

  • Provide expert input into the development, implementation, and review of the Hazardous Tree Management Program.

  • Review tree assessment reports prepared by external contractors for accuracy and risk evaluation

  • Undertake or coordinate tree assessment following severe weather events.

  • Carry out annual preventative maintenance inspections and prepare detailed tree hazard reports.

  • Advise on the design and execution of tree management audit programs.

  • Use and develop data collection technology solutions, including V/Line’s GIS, to record and report on tree management programs.

 

About you

 Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

 

  • Diploma in Diploma of Arboriculture (ACF Level 5)

  • Cert II ESI Powerline Vegetation Control  

  • Experience in coordinating inspections and mitigation programs for Electric Line Clearance

  • Understanding of relevant industry & Australian standards and legislation, including the Electricity Safety (Electric Line Clearance) Regulations 2020

  • 5 + years’ experience as a consulting arborist working in an operational environment

  • Experience in providing expert arboriculture advice to the community and stakeholders and proven ability to gain cooperation from stakeholders to manage tree-related concerns

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, data management systems and GIS.

  • Experience in monitoring effectiveness of tree management programs through auditing, work verification and reporting

  • Experience working in a government or utility setting (e.g local government, statutory authority or utility company) and reporting on the progress of legislative and risk-based tree management programs.

  • Flexibility to travel across the network and regional locations
