International Services for Students provides holistic programs and services to support the international, newcomer and refugee student experience at SFU and manages the University's Study Abroad Programs (formal exchange, study abroad, faculty-led field schools) with over 130 partners around the globe to facilitate transformative international and intercultural learning opportunities for SFU students.

About the Role

The Manager, Immigration Services oversees a team of International Student Advisor, Immigration Specialists and is responsible for maintaining the highest standard of immigration and other non-academic advising services for SFU's international student body across all three campuses. The Manager will maintain an international student advising caseload of complex cases. The role analyses data on relevant enrollment and immigration trends, monitors changes to government and university policies, amendments to legislation and regulatory requirements, and recommends changes to current practices and protocols to support decision making.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, or a related discipline, and five years of related experience in areas such as in international education programming and student advising, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

  • Must be a member in good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants CICC as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor RCIC/RISIA.
  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian immigration law, regulations, and policies, relevant university policies and provincial legislation as they pertain to international students and their accompanying family members. 
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, lead and coach staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, communication, interview, and intercultural skills.
  • Knowledge of international student concerns related to study, work, immigration and well-being and the post-secondary student lifecycle and service needs from new student to alumni.
