About the Role

Montecito Bank & Trust is seeking a full-time Mortgage Loan Originator to join the team in our Mortgage department. As a Mortgage Loan Originator, you will deliver a World Class Experience by soliciting new business and expanding the business of current customers by promoting the Bank’s mortgage financing capability. You will develop relationships with attorneys, developers, real estate professionals, and other business sources for the purpose of originating residential loans. Ensures real estate loans are acquired, documented, processed profitably, and in compliance with regulatory and Bank policies and procedures. You will be located in Oxnard, CA with a fully on-site work schedule and travel throughout Ventura County as needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience required. 
  • 3-5 years of experience in originating residential loan applications required.
  • 3-5 years of mortgage lending experience required.
  • The ability to be registered as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLSR), under the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE ACT), and maintain the registration as required.
  • Strong sales background with the proven ability to develop strong relationships to increase sales production through referrals.

Your Responsibilities

The essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Originate high quality residential mortgage loans, which meet Bank guidelines while providing a World Class Experience to our customers.
  • Solicit loans by developing referral relationships with the real estate community as well as the CPA, legal and business segments of the community.
  • Build relationships with borrowers, brokers, attorneys, participant lenders, escrow and title officers and others to facilitate the lending function.
  • Develop knowledge of Bank products, policies and procedures, and underwriting requirements.
  • Understand real estate appraisals, title reports, and real estate transactions.
  • Inform prospective and existing customers of programs, rates, policies, underwriting requirements, and loan procedures.
  • Analyze detailed financial and credit data, matching customer needs with an appropriate loan program and level of risk.
  • Receive customer applications, quote the rate and points, and complete follow-up activities with the registration lock-in.
  • Develop and maintain a high degree of visibility for the Bank in the marketplace.
  • Act as a liaison between the Commercial Lending Group & Mortgage Banking Division for referrals.

Individual pay is based on a multitude of factors, including candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform in the position and pay equity.
