About the Department
The purpose of the class is to perform routine manual work. The class is responsible for the maintenance of City property using hand or power tools or equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may, include any combination of the following: light carpentry, digging, raking, sprinkler installation and repair, painting and power washing and completing logs or routine records. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.
Position Duties
- Operates vehicles such as trucks to haul people or material to job sites.
- Loads and unloads materials such as gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipment.
- Performs utility service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches, assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes and irrigation systems.
- Performs maintenance functions such as repairing irrigation, greasing pumps, motors, and shafts, and replacing valves; performs light repairs and installations as directed.
- Maintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting and minor repairs.
- Assists the public by answering questions and providing routine information.
- Performs clerical tasks such as completing work orders or maintaining logs.
- Compares or inspects items against a standard.
- Follows instructions and orders of supervisor.
- Makes a few decisions, affecting only the individual.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires two years or more of routine manual work experience.
Must possess a valid State of Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment at time of hire.
