GENERAL STATEMENT
Under the supervision of the Fitness Manager, the Personal Trainer will provide personal training services for the Fitness Department. Responsibilities include teaching and modeling appropriate forms of exercise instruction for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Personal trainers are expected to adhere to teaching methods and modalities accepted as safe and appropriate by ASI Recreation and industry professionals that ASI Recreation promotes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Scheduling 3-6 hours per week of Facility Orientation/Floor Attendant hours and working with at least 3 clients per semester.
2. Performing fitness assessments and equipment orientations to new and/or inexperienced users, properly communicating results to participants as needed.
3. Conduct private personal training for clients, creating personalized fitness programs and following protocols as accepted and provided by the Department of ASI Recreation.
4. Ensure client’s safety by performing health risk assessments, demonstrating safe and correct form for exercises, modifying exercise intensity levels, and appropriately warming up/cooling down.
5. Provide In Body testing for members.
6. Respond to injuries and assist in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures.
7. Maintain professional and confidential communication with Wellness Coaches regarding referrals and clients.
8. Maintain complete client files and tracking sheets and ensure confidentiality of client information by following HIPAA compliance.
9. Maintain all certifications and written and oral communication with other student staff, supervisors, and administrative staff.
10. Conduct small group training classes, including boot camp, open bag training, and circuit training as needed.
11. Assist weight room attendants with organizing weights and fitness desk area.
12. Attending staff meetings, trainings, and workshops.
13. Promote and represent ASI, the SRWC, and the fitness program at campus events.
14. Model, promote, and consistently enforce ASI Recreation policies.
15. Provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for staff and participants.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Currently holds minimum certification in one or more of the following entities: ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA, NASM or reasonable substitute. Kinesiology majors are preferred but not required. Concurrent enrollment in six or more units at CSULB.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
Knowledge and Abilities
A successful candidate will possess knowledge of recreation and fitness activities and the ability to connect well with students, alumni, and community members. Must be willing to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse group of student staff and volunteers. Exceptional customer skills, dependability and punctuality are a must. Must possess enhanced leadership skills and be able to work in a diverse environment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Priority given to students currently enrolled at CSULB.
Schedule
Must be available to work evenings and weekends during the academic year. Hours during the summer and winter breaks are to be determined by the supervisor.
