Work Description:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team and lead key areas of tax compliance, equity tracking, and regulatory reporting for our S Corporation. This position serves as the main point of contact for the company’s CPA firm and plays a key role in managing sales and property tax filings, fixed assets, leases, and business licensing. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of owning multiple compliance functions in a dynamic business environment. This position will be a hybrid work schedule. 


Tax Compliance, Reporting & Strategic Planning

  • Serve as the main point of contact for the company’s external CPA firm, facilitating tax return preparation, planning discussions, and annual audit support.
  • Assist external CPA firm in the preparation and review of S Corporation federal and state tax filings, including K-1s, estimated payments, and accurate tracking of shareholder basis and tax distributions, equity ownership 
  • Assist in quarterly and annual calculation and documentation of tax provisions.
  • Maintain annual calendars with all tax and legal filing obligations, including renewals of business registrations, quarterly tax prepayments, filing extensions, etc. and ensure all obligations are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Prepare Tennessee personal tax and personal property tax returns and schedules for 3 locations, oversee property tax assessments and ensure compliance.

Sales Tax Oversight

  •  Monitor nexus exposure and ensure compliance with multi-state sales and use tax requirements (40+ states).
  •  Oversee taxability assessments and ensure exemption certificate records are current and accurate.
  •  Manage monthly and quarterly sales tax filings with Avalara.

Asset & Lease Management

  •  Maintain the company’s fixed asset register, including capitalization, depreciation, additions and disposals.
  • Manage all aspects of lease accounting, including maintaining lease schedules and amortizations.

 Other

  • Collaborate with other departments to maintain and enhance internal controls for adherence to US GAAP and Tax compliance.
  •  Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries, maintain general ledger and chart of accounts. 
  •  Financial trouble shooting and ad-hoc requests as required.
  •  Participate in ERP think-tank and software changes.

Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Public Accounting experience preferred
  • Strong MS Office skills, including Excel
  • Experience with Epicor is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of tax laws and US GAAP
  • Familiarity with sales tax automation platforms (e.g. Avalara)

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs occasionally
  • Mostly sedentary work, but it may involve standing, climbing, stooping, bending, and/or reaching for brief periods of time
